Sure it's high, but there aren't long-range heavy flights out of there. And the big mountains are to the east.

DEN has direct flights to Europe and Asia.

Trying to think of a best and worst but airports are perpetually under construction so it's a moving target. I don't mind DTW any more than the rest which is a pretty low bar.

DTW (who else thinks it's should be DRC?) Delta terminal wasn't too bad.

And Air France premium economy ain't bad at all.

I booked a flight on a Saturday night
Nine o'clock, only beer onboard is light
I hear the stewardess as she goes through
The safety announcement, tells me what I got to do
    I got to

    GET UP!
    Everybody's gonna take their seat
    GET DOWN!
    Everybody's got people to meet

You're gonna lose your luggage in Detroit Rock City

I hate flying and I hate airports.

Best airport to me is one that barely exists and are mostly outside in beautiful areas.

    Lihue comes to mind.

Used to take our obese C5s there. They can take long-range heavies just fine. We also used to land those fuckers on 6500' runways tho. We were always up for a challenge so what's super doable by my standards DEFINITELY aren't good for commercial purposes. Haha

At this point tho I'm just being an argumentative dick. Hehehe. I know DIA has many good reasons to be where it is. I'm just giving it some shit. All things considered, it's actually a really good airport.

so why can the SLC airport successfully have flights direct to Europe and Asia and be so close to mountains east and west of it? It’s lower elevation than DIA but is that the only reason why it works fine here in SLC? Maybe DIA was located where it is to accommodate more runway directions and therefore moreflights?

Look at which direction the runways are built at SLC in relation to the mountains….

I know it’s hard to believe, but logic was used to design those airports….

Lol. Rookies. Try landing at Tenzing-Hillary Airport, Nepal. Denver. SLC. Doesn't matter. Should be able to land any approach compared to that crap. Of course those guys prolly don't have a plane touch down every 30 second like DIA does. Haha. Traffic there is insane

    I’d like to see a 777 land at Tenzing-Hillary [emoji23]
    Or even an A320.

Telluride’s plateau-top airport would be fun to land on. Not much room for error there.

IIRC, Juneau AK has a sketch approach and departure. Lots of rocks in the clouds there.

^^^ Juneau is a piece of cake compared to Sitka, esp before they lengthened the runways.

The code didn't change, afaik, it's always been DEN; that code got shifted when Stapleton closed. But it's commonly referred to, in normal discussion and not code talk, as DIA, and has been since before it opened.

I think it's more than just locals, I think a lot of people around the country know it as DIA, but maybe I'm wrong on that. We need a local like Benny to weigh in.

Obviously DIA is an abbreviation for Denver International Airport and DEN is the airport code (IATA), so both are correct. It's always a bit confusing because some airports are almost exclusively referred to by their code, like LAX for Los Angeles while others aren't. I mean most people other than pilots are going to talk about O'Hare rather than ORD.

DIA used to be the abbreviation for Denver Imaginary Airport, for anyone who lived in Colorado in the mid 90s.
