    Fanboi status confirmed.

    OMG OMG BILLYGOATS OMG.

That said they are good skis. I enjoyed them the run I tried yours.

2funky they feel pretty similar to Lhasa or the bigger dynastar chams but with a damper feel than the Lhasa and maybe a bit stiffer tip than the chams. Slightly more slarvy tail than either since they actually have rocker. If you're wanting a backup to your fats and you find a deal on a pair of 191s I'd say it's pretty low risk.

For my purposes I might lean toward 186, the 191 was a bit much in the tight spots and at the hills I ski the open spots are short and the trees are very tight. The 191 would be a great ski for a place like big sky, I think.

The fact that they sound like a looser Lhasa intrigues me. Not that the Lhasa has issue getting loose, need some speed though, the tails are tough to wash out at slower speeds and the ski doesn't want to pivot at slower speeds as well. Once the Lhasa gets up to speed they are the fucking shit.
If the billy is looser due to tail rocker, I think I could get away with the 191/89, even though my hill has some tight tree lines. The 186 would probably work awesome on more confined hills but I would rather sacrifice a touch of slow speed maneuverability to have the stability on bigger lines.

It would be awesome if ON3P brought some demos to BBI. I was kinda hinting at that in my post. I have my eye on a couple other skis in their line.

The Billy Goat is pretty easy to ski. Don't be afraid to go with the bigger size, if you find one.. That being said, it does "want" speed, and does like steeper pitches.. so it's definitely suited to some mountains better than others.

I ski the 191 in the trees almost every time I take it out. No problems whatsoever. But Tahoe trees aren't that tight..

Nothing wrong with being a fanboi... there are 2 things that really get my excited about ON3P: great skis (from what I've gathered from you all) and they're made in PORTLAND! Being from PDX myself I love the fact that my little hometown has a ski manufacturer making quality skis. I love supporting a Portland company.

i'd looked at some other high end skis like Moment, DPS, etc but when I saw ON3P was from Oregon it was a done deal. Just on GP alone.

As for Wren 98's, I'm going to wait a bit and ride my Billie's when they get here. I've still got my 1080 Foils for crappy snow/rocks, etc. I may check out my wife's Wren 88's just to get a feel for the ski (her BSL is within range for us to swap skis, she has big feet).

    Bring on the snow!!!

I know, really un-tgr of me to suggest anything but the longest length. Hopefully this admission won't banish me to epicski.

But honestly for most of my skiing which consists of some variant of wild catz trees at Stevens or tighter low angle trees at mission I've started to realize I don't need the tgr approved length. And at Alpental I'm scared I'm going to fly off an unmarked cliff of doom so I ski extra slow and cautious.

When I skied norsemans 191s they were really fun in upper Nash but the lower mountain was super chunky wet crud and in Felson and Gala (both funky luge runs through the woods) I felt like I wasn't totally on top of the ski.

    I bet 2funky would like the 191s.

Don't worry I have my own ski fetish. I've got an unhealthy amount of chams in various length, layups, widths and versions.

I bet some on3p pom poms come with the veneer layup skis, ask auvgeek.

Everytime I see those wood veneer topsheets with the orange FKSs it gives me a semi... When I get me 116 Kartels and Wren 98s I will throw up my porn...

People might not care too much, but I thought I'd share a story:

Not pictured in the above is an unmounted pair of backup woodgrain 191 BGs ON3P built for me last year. When they discontinued the 191, got worried the BG was going to get softer, turnier, etc. I realize now that I probably would have been fine with the current 189, and I'd actually love to try a pair with the new changes to see if hard-snow performance has improved noticeably, but at the time I was nervous.

Anyway, I asked for a woodgrain 191 exactly like my original pair but extra carbon in the tail so they'd be 20-30% stiffer for the last 30cm. In our first email exchange, he told me that they don't run carbon in less than full length strips because it isn't as durable but they have a CNC and mill all the cores in house. Awesome! They built a pair, but, before shipping them, Scott emailed me the following:

We had thought the same layup as before with a modified core profile would be stiff enough, but my feeling is we should do that along with a composite change. We have all the specs of the skis build, including the first pair we built for you, so we should be able to get this more dialed for you.

That sound good? This is probably the last pair of 191cm BGs ever built, so we would like to get it right.
That level of custy service is just awesome!

I haven't skied them yet but the hand flex seems right on the money. Stiffer than stock by ~20-30% overall and maybe 40-50% in the tail. And the woodgrain topsheet is as gorgeous as ever. Now I just need to figure out how to ski 400 days/year for the next ten years to kill my current pair.

I wonder if the same is true for the new Wren 88. When I want more ski I generally want more waist to go with the length.
I jumped on a pair of wren 88s [184], wrens 98s [189] and steeple 98s [184] at WWSRA at mission ridge last season - spring like [February] slushy snow. ME: 6'1", 190#, technique geek, beer leaguer, steep and deep lover, tourist of the PNW. Can drive 'em, pivot 'em, slarve 'em - just depends on the ski and conditions...i like turns [tight or large] and skiing fast. Boots: Head Raptor B3 RD [wrens] and Scarpa Mastrale RS [steeples].

I have limited time on the Brahma, but in comparison, the wrens are more forgiving and playful. I found the Brahma wasn't alive unless you were skiing fast, and it seemed to be better at home on piste, doing larger GS arc'd turns, at least the 187 did. Wrens, at both lengths/widths, and steeple 98, responded well whether being skied hard or gently, did well at a variety turn shapes and skiing styles [best response was 'driving' them, like the brahma]. If the dimension of the wren 88 is more appealing to you, go 184, or 189 in the 98. They don't have the speed/stability capacity of the Brahma, but they make up for that in versatility and more fun category.

I skied about 80+ pairs of skis at WWRSA, from FIS race skis to weight watchers touring skis, expert to beginner skis, all in a variety of lengths, widths, and designs. The wren 88, 98 and steeple 98 were quite impressive in the all around category. I plan on adding the 98
Steeple in the 184 to my quiver [nice compliment to my steeple 112s] as my all around winter touring ski / non pow play days at the resorts. If I could justify the $$ for an extra 5cm and choice in top sheet, i'd submit an order for a wren 98 with the tour layup and tail in a 189.

    Hope this helps some.

I'd pay big money for a 196 Billy goat with the new sidecut. Jeeez that'd be a great ski. Kept at 116mm underfoot, exactly the same as the 189, just longer and slightly stiffer, for us guys over 200 lbs.. The 196 moment governor is one of my favorite skis, but I wish it skied a bit straighter, yet looser, like the Billy Goats.. and had bamboo. A 196 BG would be killer.

My main reason for giving praxis a shot this season, is because they have longer skis. ON3P is hands down my favorite, and always will be, but I just wish they made another size range on their freeride skis..

194 wrens 108s/98s, 189 wren 88, 196 BGs, and 198cm cease and desists. When I'm in the market for a few new skis for 2017/2018, those sizes are what I'll be looking for. I'm getting chunky as I get older and keep lifting, so I just can't make the compromise..

Yeah thanks. The 187 Brahma is totally different from the 180 and skis just like you describe. I love the 180 because it rips...hard....but it falls down when the bottom goes away or I try to ski fast out west. I ski just like you from your description.

I blew my acl last year on my original Billy Goats (not the fault of the ski but I am done with them) and don't want to ski anything 110 plus this winter so the 98 Wren is calling to me. Thanks for the input.

Sounds money. That was my biggest gripe with the Billygoats. Too soft of a tail. I liked my Wrenegades more.

Remember your BGs were from the dark times. The time before the rebellion...before the current few versions of BG. Stiffer and more stout tail for sure
