Suggestions\advice needed. I switched back from boarding and bought a pair of K2 Aftershocks. 181 long with 86 underfoot. (130/86/144) They do well for groomers and not bad in ankle deep pow. I bought these cheap, and need to upgrade significantly. I have heard NOTHING but good things about ON3P. Demo'ing does not seem to be a good option at the mountains I ski...so I come here to ask for advice. What ski would you suggest?

Want much more float for pow days. (Would also happily not jump on the k2's for groomer days either...but am only buying 1 set of skis...)
Still will likely snowboard on those real deep days, but would love for this ski to make me think otherwise...yet still perform well on groomers. (Perhaps I am asking for to much out of 1 ski)

I lean towards:

Wrenegade 108. (Probably 184's)
Billy Goats Probably 184 too

I live in Portland, so may just schedule a drop in to the factory to talk in person, but thought I'd start here first to get the wisdom of the crowd!

Placed a custom Steeple 116 wood veneer order. Hoping to be an all day ripper for NW snow and beyond.. Want to thank the many on this thread for contributing and guiding me to this decision- albeit a new ski. Wanted the new BG shape but a touch lighter and going wood to stiffin er up

If your goal is to have the veneer add stiffness, be sure to relay that to on3p. From what i've read, they have been accounting for any added stiffness by removing carbon to maintain the stock/tour flex.

Thank Beteleguse. I have heard a few recommending the Billy Goat. Unsure if I am done with a board for good, but certainly tending towards skii's more full time. Perhaps the Billy Goats are the call, and on those hard pack family days I just go back to the cheap k2's?

I am now 3 seasons back from the snowboard. I took a 20 year break from skiis. I've had to relearn as ski's are so much different than the olden days. I continue to work on carving at higher speeds and steeper terrain. I can absolutely get down most anything, but do steer clear of the Whistler double black exposure\fall you tumble over rocks kinds of runs. (Not exactly plentiful at my regular riding resorts.) I'd say I like to go fast. Not sure if that qualifies as skilled or not.

I think I need to drop by the factory and beg\plead to take a few different types on demo! Problem is...I now usually do weekends at Mt Bachelor, and avoid day trips to Mt Hood!

I'd suggest calling the factory dudes or stopping by to talk about things thoroughly. The factory is cool.

My vote based on your lil blurb... One ski... Wren 108... Two skis... BG 90% of the time, pick the other for railing groom

Yes that's my goal. Probably a good suggestion if they have adjusted layups previously. I don't know. Had to call in about doing the custom in 189 and to the staff's credit he went over and clarified what I would be getting in order to be on same page with expectations. It felt like he had the time and interest in getting it right for me to be happy. Also add he thought it was going to be a dope ski. My understanding is 19 oz carbon and thinking standard Steeple core. Probably wont call to micro them but perhaps on3p will speak to it here or on future order communication, sounds like the press' weeks out.

PUMA- I left skiing in college for snowboard, 15+ years. Now back at skiing in a big way. Have not been on a board in years since landing on some bad ass 'pow oriented' skis. For me that started with Bodacious years back. At 118 wide I ski them everywhere - they plowed. Next came Katanas - my boards collected dust. Got some DPS skis then sold my boards. Have tried others too. After seeing on3p grow and build a strong reputation I plan to pony up to them in the next coming years. Plus I like the PNW connection and always try to support local or core Co's. >>Long way of saying grab the goats with the fresh update and don't look back!

I love my BG's but I sure as hell wouldn't enjoy a day on the groomers with them, even allowing that the newer model is better than past models. Wren 108 is far more versatile and still plenty fun in powder.

Champagne Room has been just lurking on our site for a bit, but it is going to serve a very distinct purpose very, very soon.

One-off skis, classics that we make in extremely limited runs (2-3 pair), off-the wall skis we came up with that we love but aren't suitable for mass market, etc. That sort of thing.

Was there any possibility of a longer/wider wren prototype? I remember some chatter about a design like that, a few months ago.

Wren 114 coming soon. But (for now), don't expect it longer. It's still almost impossible to sell skis that start "19x" (which is why I expect to build like...5 SuperGoats ever!).

No plans for these but we should likely put them in the store anyway. They are even rockered and have water channels in the bottoms.

Really no reason for us to be clogging the forums up with multiple threads. We're good just having our one thread going.

I know this is TGR and all, but I'm bummed the 174 BG was axed. Smaller men and women folk love them some BG, too!

Last fall at the Bozone ski swap I scored a set of 166 BG un-drilled for my lil lady!

So...at least as a "men's ski" we couldn't sell that size to save our lives. Don't be surprised if you see a women's 164cm/174cm model coming out in its place for 18/19 though. Working name - "Bhhaaad Bitch" (but seriously don't have a model name yet).

But also unbelievably awesome... You can't tell me that you don't want a pair.

Also, personally a SuperGoat is something I could see skiing (and buying) over a Cease and Desist. I think I'm not alone in that.

Cease & Desist loves consistent deep snow. SuperGoat is just a longer BG - going to be more versatile almost 100% of the time.

Whats this "Champagne Room"??

Place to roll out direct only, one offs, etc - aka SuperGoat, Wren 114, small run of pipe skis, the 240cm 2x6....you know...the skis that no one buys.

Personally, I wish the "SuperGoat" was simply a 189 BillyGoat scaled up to a 193 with maybe a tad stiffer flex. Not a different shape/profile.

It is. Only real change to it is a slightly lower tail rocker.

If you are trying to demo at Meadows...yeah...they don't seem very interesting in allowing us to demo there anymore (they used to). Sucks...but don't be surprised to see a few guys hanging out in the parking lot, cooking burgers, drinking beer...and just happening to have a handful of demo skis around on Saturdays this winter.

Ski Bowl and Timberline are great and happy to host us, so we will make it there some days this year for sure.

Do note, too, you can demo direct out of the factory. For Hood, I would recommend 2 skis from the following:

Everyday:
Kartel 108 or Wrenegade 108

Soft Days:
Kartel 116 or Billy Goat

All depends on your style and can vary between days. For example, I prefer a Kartel 108 and Billy Goat quiver - one more playful (everyday), one more directional (powder).

You would likely be looking 186cm in Kartels and 184cm in Wren/BG.

If you can, swing by the factory and we'd be happy to walk you through the skis in person.

Generally carbon stays the same and fiberglass changes - but it depends on the model/flex.

Sadly unable to demo at Bachelor right now as well...though we're working on it. If you wanted to take skis for the weekend (and we don't have another demo elsewhere) you can do so directly from the factory. Just bring us some beer (not Widmer ) and we can get you set up. During the mid-to-late winter, we are travelling a lot though so I'd try and do so as early as you can.

189 ST 116 w/ Veneer + Green = pretty classic ski. Gonna truck too, but be lighter than the BG. Should be a super fun ski. That mold isn't one we have permanently in (9 permanent press bays, 1 bay we swap), so looking like late Sept/early October that the 189cm is back in the press, but should start getting them down the production line later soon. Hope you like em!

(Yeah, yeah, I know they're different, but both have giddily happy, loyal followers, and both ski stupidly well in a large range of conditions - Protests from 5 years of experience, BGs from listening to you).
