Bought some BGs in a 189...contemplating if that is too much ski. 5'11, 160 in gear, going to be used out west primarily.

For reference I come from a FIS racing background so I've skied 191+ GS skis and love to charge. I last skied a 186 Peacemaker and Gunsmoke which felt on the shorter side for charging.

    More specifically, where out west?

Generally speaking, no I don't think the 189 is too much for a guy your size. I'm 5'9" 140lbs and could ski the old 191 just fine in more open terrain, but that length was overkill for me in CO since I tend to ski a lot of smaller/tighter places (Loveland, Crested Butte, Wolf Creek, etc) and the 186/184 is a more versatile size for me. But if I were skiing more in places like Jackson, Snowbird, etc. I'd give serious thought to having a 189 around.

I'm your size exactly, and the 191 BG is my favorite ski evar. YMMV.

Jackson, Snowbird, more open places. I can get tree skiing back East

But that's good to know. I just like being able to shut down a ski quickly if need be and well, my only experiences on a ski that large are the old 1st Gen Cochise (for like 2 runs and coming off some noodle Opus) and race skis.

He deserved a thumping. Anyone who can afford to ski at Bach has resources, first world resources at least. Poaching other's skis/gear is crap.

    Utah demos? Bueller?
I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Thanks BCSAR and POWMOW Ski Patrol for rescues

    2016/2017 - ON3P SKIS Thread (Finally)

Holy shit am I loving the Wren 102s. For me, a perfect everyday ski. This thing is railing groomers, feels perfect in the low amounts of fresh snow I've skied on so far this year, and just feels so solid and playful which is what I was after.

I am loving the 191 wren 113s. So damn fast, yet so maneuverable.

Please keep this as a custom option forever! I will want another pair 2 years from now.

You know, I took out some new-to-me Cease and Desists (Xavier's old set, with the thick core), thinking they'd be the shit in 2 feet of blower, and I happily switched back to 191 BGs after lunch. Still enamored with that ski.

Interesting ,care to elaborate? Was it due to just being more confident on the BG?

The thick core c&d's look uber beastly, where were you skiing them at?

No, I had no trouble figuring them out. I think they're too stiff for the geometry... which makes sense since ON3P changed the core to the tour layup after this vintage. The long rockered tips didn't plane up in deep blower until 40 mph, which isnt always how i want to ski on a pow day. They'd be much better suited to denser snow or real big mountain lines, as is their advertised purpose.

I look forward to skiing them more, but they are too planky for general resort diddling.

I bet it's something to do with the extra stiff flex and very low density of the snow. Yesterday was a day for things like OG Hellbents, Pontoons, Pillowfights, etc.

Ya it sounds like they wanna go big or go home.. Theres a video on youtube of someone crushing big mtn lines on them, but its wide open..

I gotta get on my tour-core C&D's, and see if theyre any better at noodling around.. i dont have a problem messing about on the 191 BGs.

Do I put beast 16s on them, or alpine binders?

Makes total sense. I was wondering if it was due to the stiffness of that gen.

Wren 98 or 108 as an everyday driver in a two ski quiver with the older style (2013) Moment Bibby Pro? Or even the Kartel 108? I'm 5'10" 165lbs and a strong skier. Skiing the Seattle area primarily. These will be replacing my 185 Cochise. I liked the Cochise on days when I was able to get after it, but its replacement also needs to be somewhat fun when the speeds come down on days with the wife and friends that aren't as fast. Hoping for something that can still get after it, but is a bit more lively on the groomers and slower speed messing around. Not necessarily playful or jibby, but lively. The Cochise will carve groomers but just at higher speed. Something that can still be fun at lower speeds without having to slide all the turns, especially when it's harder conditions. The priority is still something that will keep me happy at speed in chop/crud and steeps. I just find that most days with a faster crowd it's usually storm cycle and if it's soft at all I'm on the Bibbys. I find myself on the Cochise (and their future replacements) when it's a harder and slower day.
