My shorts moved a little bit when I got home yesterday and unwrapped my new W108's! Bindings out for delivery this afternoon, cold temps and snow in the forecast. Going to be a good week! Also, I've come to realize that that mornings are not the ideal time to break the news to the wife that you bought news skis.

So when is the ideal time? Asking for a friend.

i've got the 189 billy goats. been skiing on them in La Grave and Serre Chevalier, mounted with kingpins. I've got to say i'm not as blown away as some people seem to be. They are definitely a fun ski, and nice in the trees. I'm not a big guy - 5'11 / 154 pounds - and for me they ski very short, and i find the tips seem very easy to overpower. I don't find them anywhere near as stiff as I thought they would be. I've been trying to use a more centred stance, and not be so aggressive, but whilst I enjoy skiing them I probably wouldn't buy them again knowing what I do now.

I certainly don't think they're a bad ski, but maybe just not for me. I prefer something more directional and more traditional. I've also been skiing on Dynastar Legend x106 this season. I bought a shorter size (182) for touring, and would choose this over the billy goat in pretty much any condition.

You should consider that the ramp delta of the Kingpin is 9-10mm, while alpine bindings are 0-5mm. That is a lot of ramp and is going to throw you on the tips to much. Going to be hard to have a centered stance on the Kingpins. Get some toe shims from B&D. I did that to my kingpin setups and they feel SO much better.

x2. Or ditch the ticking time bomb Kingpins, especially for La Grave caliber skiing.

Also, how many days have you put on them?

Reporting back that casually bringing it up to Mrs Auvgeek/Jupiter while you’re drinking with ski friends talking shop and hoping it is swept under the rug for arrival is not a solid strategy, it does not work.

You seem like a perfect candidate for an extra-stiff pair, which is what I ski at about your size -- though I'm a fat american so 5-10# heavier

She actually wants some 176 K108s now. But says she "doesn't need any more skis."

What she means is that if you WANT any new skis, she NEEDS 176 K108s

Sound advice. Also, sometimes seeds don't take hold and you have to replant, whereas the above behavior IS conducive to reseeding, just not harvesting.

When is soon? What is your advice on normal vs stiff? I am thinking stiff if the way to go for a big guy who likes to ski fast and doesn't want to slow down for chopped up WA snow but I haven't skied a normal BG.

    You could....but you shouldn't.

A bit more than that, especially since we would have to go through a prototyping round or two with them. We had already gone through the design/testing phase with the SuperGoats, so a lot of the work to bring them to production was already done. I'm aware of the interest here. We'll see what happens.

Let us know if that solves it. Obviously our apologies if the base bevel wasn't enough. Skis go through multiple base bevel passes on a belt & then through a dual ceramic edge grinder (DTS-U Pro)....so for something to slip through with no base bevel would be difficult. Hope the bevel solves the issues and helps make the skis easier going for you. If not, let me know.

Also flex wise - as there was uncertainty in the comments above - there haven't been any significantly flex changes on the Wren line in the past couple years.

What’s the 184 BG mount point? Just comparing with my other skis.

I think I'm really going to like these skis! Didn't get a whole lot of time on them as I had to teach, but I'm stoked! Ski seems more forgiving and less work than I thought it was going to be. Didn't hurt that the snow was pretty darn nice last night either. Can't wait to get more time on them tomorrow. Thanks ON3P!

2nd the vote for a stiffer or longer pair, supergoat maybe. I had the same sense skiing these, feel short best with a centered stance, unlike you would be used to on the dynastars. You may have dug the Wren, or even an older Wren also. Agree it is still not a bad ski, and you can have a lot of fun with it. But I am having a lot more fun with the supergoat.

What are you doing with these big skis anyway, I thought all Europeans skied skinny shorter skis such as the 184 Wren?

What do you guys think about the W108 from this year? Is it a full on charging comp ski? Demanding? Easy to ski but powerful? Somewhere in the middle? How much difference is there between the 184 and 189?

I tried to demo last weekend but they were all out for the holiday at my local shop.

the W108 IS easy to ski. I know nothing of 'comp' skis, but the current wren is really dialed and versatile for a ski on the stiffer side of things.

aside from the 5cm, the radius increases in the 189, afaik that's it. rocker is the same with a longer running length.
(I have last year's which I believe is the same as current)

It's plenty capable. Like I said above, don't get too caught up by that Blister article... I had the 112's before and these aren't exactly noodles in comparison. I feel like they're applying too much of the tail difference to the rest of the ski. If you can't charge on these it's not the ski that's the problem.

yeah, for sure - the wren108 is no wren88 or SG in the aever layup flex wise, but then again i have never thought "jeez, these things are soft" - because they are not. They just flex rather nice. I find them to provide a predictable ride equally at home on the groomers as in softer snow. It just skis well. They are no "mere mortals need not even consider it"-comp ski - but they are a solid directional charger that performs well across most conditions. Not to build unrealistic expectations of it being the best magic carpet ride ever instantly turning shitty conditions to pow, but they do ride nice.

Since i went full jeebus with my quiver this year i also got some kartel108s too compare or for me to ride when i get a bit tired and full on charger mode is off the table. I haven't had the time to try the k108 yet, so cannot compare the two.

There might be a demand for a stiffer charger ski that doesn't weigh 2grs. As such stiffening the wren108 might be a spectacularly good idea, making something good even better. I just hope that the change doesn't make the ski less approachable for everybody else, and doesn't turn it into a top 1% of skiers ski. The new flex will also make it very interesting to see how the new wren114 compares flex wise. I am probably talking out of my ass overthinking how much stiffer the new one is, and probably ought to just remain cool, calm and collected in the knowledge that the magicians over at ON3P know best. They probably do

I bought mine on Black Friday. I have been dying to try them and I'm finally getting them mounted today... it was a pretty crappy snow year around here up until about 2 weeks ago. I was ready to put them into service and then my buddy blew out the edge and sidewall on his 3 hour old Rustler 11s so I backed off.
