I just got hit by a car

well, today I became a real biker. I got hit my my first car, a jeep cherokee actually.

I was riding back from the trails on the sidewalk going against traffic on a one way street. come to intersection and stop. Some lady in a cherokee passes up what I think to be obvious gaps in traffic to go. So I try and cross, turns out she wasnt waiting for me, she didnt even see me. Pulls the front of my bike under before she stops.

Cop shoes up, no report filed, but he logged it? said a report wasnt worth it. no damage to jeep or me, my bike is kind of a POS anyways, and definately uninsured.

preliminarly damage report is both tires, and the back wheel is all bent to shit. frame seems fine, not sure if the fork got bent.

Anyone have any advice or can at least relate to this? Is there anything I can do? This sucks because now I can't ride until i get this crap fixed.

It was kind of funny when she got out of the car and saw my mangled shins, but then I told her they always look like that just from riding all the time.

So, she is going to pay for the damage to your bike, right?

Oh wait, were you trying to cross on a red hand? If so, then that would be your fault.

I saw a guy get run over by four horses pulling a taxi-carriage on Mackinac Island one time.

Seriously, though...good to hear you're alright.

Go online and look up cyclist attorneys or something like that. There are a few of those places in portland that give free consultation. Of course, laws differ between states, but there may be able to steer you in the right direction. Good luck!

Glad you're not hurt. The very least Ms. Cherokee could do is make your bike right.

if thats all it takes to be a real biker, Ive been one since I was 5 on my huffy! and to the dousche that hit and ran a 5 year old in a white bronco . he ruined my huffy. I sustained a skinned knee and face. But it was the lack of respect that hurt the most.

sorry, I havent been around. There was no traffic light or anything at the intersection. Traffic was moving towards me and I was on the left sidewalk. The lady was stopping and only looking away from me at the oncoming traffic before gunning it across the road. Usually I just ride off the curb and around back of cars turning like that because of exactly what happened. I just figured she saw me because she sat there for a while.

I'm just glad it was my bike that took the hit and not me. The frame and fork look ok, the front tire blew right away, and the back wheel is all bent to shit but the tire is ok but getting bald, i needed to replace it very soon anyway. Hoprefully I am out just a wheel and a tire.

This is really, really common. Most drivers never do the 'right' part of "look left, then right, then left again." I've been hit twice on my bike and this was the cause both times. Thing is, if you were a pedestrian you'd get run over too. So be careful out there folks and please look right.

I ran slam into a dumpster while I was looking over my shoulder once. Does this count?
