    Alpine Meadows Report: May 10th

Had to call it a day after three hours and get back to the office, so I guess I'm the first to report back in.

Damn, can this really be May 10th? It was full-on mid-winter up there. Everything was perfectly buffed out, all the bumps and trenches filled in, not much debris, and nice cold temp, buttery snow over it all.

Pulled in at 7:40, already a line forming. Saw some Bro Models, and recognized Tyrone, Slim, skier666? joining the line just behind me. Arty and freshies pulled in not long after that. Seemed like everyone was coming out of the woodwork. The crowd got antsy, as the bombing continued up high. I think they finally started boarding around 8:40 or so, and I wound up on the 9th chair.

Made a beeline right for Pete's Peril, but broke off early after seeing D chutes without tracks. Buttery, fast snow, just perfect. Sped across to Three Sisters and put a fresh line all the way down to the bottom. It was a really nice maiden voyage for the new stiff Bro's.

Hit Palisades next, and returned a second time with Arty and Tyrone. Ran into Darkside and a few other Alpine regulars. Then on to High Yellow, Keyhole, Lower Beaver, Art's Knob, again and again. Seemed like a lot of people out there, scrambling out the traverses and hiking over Keyhole, but there always seemed to be a fresh line in there somewhere.

What a morning. Great skiing with some maggots again, and I still can't believe this is May. FKNA.

Didja feel that base layer below at all or was it Bottomless ?

The nice thing about May powder storms is that it stays light so damn late. I'm going to get me a nice dose of dusk patrol pow this afternoon with a skinning start time of 5:30 PM!

Yeah today was great, pulled into the parking lot behind 666 and slim at 7:15 thinkin I'll get my ticket, throw my sticks down in line, and chill for the 8 opening. The ticket office threw a wrench in that plan as they didn't start selling tickets until 7:50, but it didn't matter too much anyway with the late chair start. Was still able to snag 11th or 12th chair though maybe. As 3pin said, the snow was buuuuttery smoooooth mid-winter pow. Just mach turns and don't worry about it... things started mankin & settin up around 11 - 11:30 though, so that's when I called it too. Knee no likey the manky. Snow was still pretty good in High Yellow, some shots in Keyhole, and Sherwood when I left though.

Yeah shit, maggots everywhere up there....3pin, 666, arty, hardri...I mean, littleredridingpants, slim, darkside, freshies...good crew. good snow. good times. GREAT Spring.

Nice work, thanks for the report. Reminded me of May 10 two years ago - Snowbird - I missed first tram cause of some lady in the ticket line asking more questions than Alex Trabeck, but hit second tram to some of the deepest sickest pow all that year.

    I heart May Pow.

    Pics? Arty? 666? Someone, please.....

    Glad you got some shoe.

I think this season may blend into next season without us even knowing it.

(i hear the snowbanks on the road to virginia lakes is 30 feet overhead. they are having a helluva job getting the roads cleared down there).

I'm sick and tired of taking pics for all you slackers. NO PICS FOR YOU!!!!

Sadly, I forgot the camera today. Didn't really matter though. It was a total feeding frenzy. You'd think we hadn't skied pow all year. It was a great morning. Ty covered it pretty well. Anyway, things got fairly heavy in the afternoon, so hr and I left around 12:30. Slim and 666 kept going. I know 666 had his camera with him, so you'll have to wait just a little bit longer.

    What a day! May 10!!!

Nice to meet the people I never met before, but once the line dropped Hardrider, SLim, and I started straightlining....so we didn't even end up skiing with anyone else other than Arty...oh well, you know what they say about days like this....

Look for a Ghettos TR 5/10 very soon.....
