Other plumbing question: I drained my hot water heater to clear sediment out, and now my tub faucet on the 2nd floor is pretty much air locked. There is just a trickle of flow coming when it's wide open. Is there an easy way to clear that without calling a plumber?

I would pull the cartridge, probably got some sediment blockage.

My municipal water tends to weld those cartridges in like a sumnabitch.

    Let sleeping sediment lie

But. If you must. Close the hot outflow. Shut off the heat. And run many gallons through it.
Same shit happens with overflow pressure relief valve. Learned decades ago to not purge those unless you are ready to replace them.

And yeah. As said above it’s probably sediment. You stirred it up little darling.

All this talk about water heaters got me thinking about ours, and looking at some vids, a few of which I thought I'd share.

I've broken more plumbing related things doing preventive maintenance than things that have broken because they haven't been maintained.

If it ain't leaking don't touch it. This goes for valves, heaters, faucets, whatever.

That said my area has very normal water that doesn't scale or anything

Good advice. One time I operated a shutoff valve that had been in place and unused for maybe 10 years. An O-ring or some similar piece of rubber in the valve disintegrated into bits and went into the dishwasher. Needed to replace the faucet so had to do something, but in retrospect I would have saved a lot of time if I just shut off the water at the main.

Tennant calls me an sez the the kitchen tap was fucked and it was actualy beyond fucked so i find a nice tap set cheap enough with the stick shift like she wants, the tap set won't come off so I gotta drill the retaining rings

So put it all together and I do it in the rong order cuz the sprayer won't fit thru the hole from the bottom so I gota take it completley apart to feed the sprayer thru the hole top first

sometimes reading the instructions is a good idea

Depends on whether or not the instructions were written by someone who actually speaks English (and French too in your case). And on whether or not there are words at all, or just undecipherable pictures.

Yeah I thinks whoever wrote the manual spoke engrish cuz I used to read japanese motor cycle manuals from the 60-70's and these were way better

I got paid to paint a ski hut and the carpenters we were instaling a wood stove, I come in and the 2 carpenters were reading the instructions the french guy in french and the american guy in english which I thot looked pretty funny, we got the stove instaled and i managed to get the paint on right
