    Aaah! I just put an offer down . . . .

On a lot near Glacier (base of Mt. Baker) - this is so scary, but exciting too . . . I looked last November, found a ton, didn't act on it, looked again in March, found nothing . . . and recently found some available Sunday - The lot I wanted most had an offer put on it 2 weeks before I looked in March and sold for a very reasonable price. My lot (if I get it) is a wierder shape, and not as ideal, but will certainly work . . . but this is kinda stressful! Here's hoping it all works out . . .

Had to share it with someone - why not your internet friends?!?!

Such a high/low. If the offer is accepted, you will have a "Yeah!!" moment followed quickly by a "What the hell have I done?"

But as many have told me, real estate is good call because they aren't making any more. Full speed ahead and good luck!!
Charlie, here comes the deuce. And when you speak of me, speak well.

I have already had that - was on a high all the way home, and now am quite nervous, especially to come home to bills and other crazy life responsibilities . . .
I'll know for sure what I've gotten myself into tomorrow . . .

Maybe we can have a summer maggot house-building/mtn biking/spring skiing/beer drinking summit!

Thanks for the positive responses - it really helps me with not doubting my decision!

WOW! Congrats! How exciting for you. I'm sure you could talk us in to helping you build if we got afternoons off for riding and drinking beer. That sounds sweet.

A lot of dirt. And it appears they accepted my offer. Good thing the trees were included too, or that would have gotten really expensive!

Make sure you build a stawbale house! With solar panels! Off the grid!

Man, that would so totally rock.

Too late, Glacier already IS off the grid... all of them, in fact.

Yeah, but a strawbale house itself would kick major ass! And you'd save on heating/cooling bills.

I might even PAY to get to help build a strawbale house.

Congratulations, Kellie! I've been seriously considering finding myself some land to buy, somewhere, as well. But how does a first-time land buyer handle rent and a mortgage? Congrats.

Rumor has it building permits are tough to come by and insurance is almost non-existent. You could always live off the grid but it sure would suck if your house burned down or the building nazis had you evicted.

    congrats kellie!

    Sphinx... is your name Gary?

Strawbale houses definitely rock, especially with solar panels. There are also a lot of other creative ways to save energy, such as making the drainpipe for your shower out of copper and wrapping it around the pipe that comes out of your water tank. The hot water going down the drain helps heat the water coming out of the shower head, so you use less energy. Saves a lot over long term.
Another cool idea: pour a concrete slab for your kitchen floor. Have a copper pipe snake throughout the slab. Attach the pipe to the drain from your dishwasher. Put laminate flooring down over the slab. Set your dishwasher to start running an hour (or however long the cycle is) before your alarm goes off. Basically, time it so it drains right before you go into your kitchen for breakfast. Free heated floors on those cold winter mornings.
