"The White Album and Hendrix and the Velvet Underground had robbed rock of its power"
whaaat! I hate fucking rock critics some times. Snotty little shits who sit in the front row taking notes. Like they know better.
Springsteen's success is pretty much tied into the disco revolution. I've always felt that he was a working class icon that the spit on and disappearing lower classes of the 60's and seventies could hold on to. They were confused by the rock star hippies, and racist toward the disco stars. The manager may have had some ideas, but the times were bigger than him. But then punk came along, and rock lived again.
But he's right. Listen to Tunnel of love, and two others he didn't mention, Human Touch and Lucky Town. And then, turn the Dylan back on.

Tunnel of Love was the last Sprinsteen album I enjoyed and I just worked out that he has not done anything decent for 18 years
