    Batteries

If there is a thread on this link me, I scrolled a few pages back.

The battery on my $400 PowerShot is fading.
    Mike's Camera: Canon brand= $55 , knockoff brand = $45
    Other various online/ bigbox knockoff brands $30, $20, $10, $5.

Not that I really wanna fry my camera, but it's not a $5000 dslr.
Where do you draw the line in the sand?

For a Powershot, go with one of the generics. Wasabi is a known off-brand maker of good, cheaper batteries. I personally wouldn't go with the cheapest... $10-15 should get you a good one. Reviews on Amazon are a fairly good judge of legitimacy.

I've bought plenty of off-brand, $15 batteries for my lower-level DSLRs in the past and haven't ever had an issue. Now with my current 5D3, that's another story.

Thanks , I'll google Wasabi batteries tmmrw.
Would the cheapest harm the camera or just not last long etc?
Another story for the 5D3 because more investment value, or more power consumption etc?

I'm using Wasabi as extras for my GoPro and SL1. No problems with either. They're pretty inexpensive and have a good rep (LOTS of reviews on AMZN). Not sure why you'd want or need to go any cheaper than that.

Mostly because the newer DSLRs don't play nice with generic batteries (thanks Canon) and I don't want to risk frying the internals.

I've been using the Chinese batteries that came with my aftermarket grip for my 6D and they work great. Same experience with my old T2i.

Wasabis are cheap but die after a couple of years. I always stock up a few spares with any new camera and ironically its always the camera's original battery that lasts the longest. Canons and nikons.

Work great, cost 1/4 of the Canon OEM.
