I tow a trailer all the fucking time with both my 2011 328 xit, also did with my 2007 version as well. Sometimes with the box on top as well.

Oh and fuck getting a truck.

^^^ Yeah, now it's "Ultra" 'cuz that's so much better than plain Quattro.

This is what I was referring to earlier. These are all very sophisticated systems. I routinely drive these cars in blizzarding conditions over mountain passes at 60 mph and more. The talk about how the Quattro's system is front wheel based and the VW's is whatever, and the BMW's is rear based, and blah blah blah, doesn't really mean shit when you're driving in a snow storm to go skiing. They all work really really fucking well.

Low center of gravity in a wagon matters. Seen plenty of capable SUVs spun out (or flipped) while I've motored along in my wagon

Like 2100 miles with the roof box and car loaded and maybe 600-800 pounds in the trailer?

My beef with audi isn't around their awd systems, they are quality. I had one for a bit with the torn system, and it was quite good. But... The front differential is housed in the transmission, which means the whole engine sits in front of the front axle. Not good for weight distribution. I mod dedicated the suspension trying to fix it, but the problem is inherent. Went back to an awd Bmw e46 (open system with electronic traction via brake adjustment) with an awd system that was not as good as the audi, and much happier. I was living in summit park, so not many snowier hilly places to live, and car did fine. The balance of the Bmw and over driving dynamic was superior to the audi.

It's stop and go and stuff like pulling a boat out of water that will kill it. Mercedes wagon gives no specific tow capacity from factory.

Well, a typical run is 240 miles one way, drive it around for a few days, then drive that 240 back. The box has been on a bunch. I agree with the stop and go, your run should be easy. Just don’t be a moron.

Nice comparison between these two power trains, that I was curious to ask myself and left unanswered with only limited beemer experience. Just a smattering of wheel time in a variety of bimmer - their built around a more aggressive suspension geometry.

Drove the A6 for 240k and the oversteer was readily apparent the more slippery the conditions - weather or tire. I never picked up on the tranny forward configuration being the culprit.

I did fall in love with the bias. Much less forward than any japanese brand ime.

Yeah, I don't know enough about the brand new audi, but that design of engine in front of front diff was common to audi for decades, the older ones with the five cyls, had a smaller radiator offset to the left, due to the engine extending so far forward. They have done a decent job at camouflaging the long front end, but even in 06 (my only and last audi) you could tell from certain angles that the front of the car was long. Bmw awd has caught up, as have most higher end manufacturers. But you put 4 good snow tires on an awd car, it does not need all that fancy crap, you will be fine.
Other things I didn't like about the layout were because engine was so far forward, doing the timing belt requires a front clip removal. Fuck that. Sold that thing.

I've got a BMW 335i, RWD, wife has a Volvo XC70 T6, AWD (FWD biased), both have big horsepower; and I have an Audi allroad, and I can say unequivocally that in slippery conditions I have not experienced any more or any less understeer from any of these rigs. Oversteer, you bet your ass that Bimmer gets its out any chance it can. But in normal conditions the Audi is as nimble as the BM, and the Volvo will always be the comfortable Highway Star with power in the tank. FWIW you can get torque-steer out of the Volvo, not so much from the Audi.
I still call it The Jake.

I can tow a 4x8 or 5x8 uhaul trailer with mine according to the uhaul website. NJ to MT for $305. How much is my car going to hate that?
I hauled a 4x6 open trailer, roof box on top, with my Outback from SLC to Philadelphia. It was August, I had great weather and little wind. Kept it under 70mph and got about 23mpg. I would not want to tow a uhaul enclosed trailer, they are fucking heavy. They're so overbuilt it really eats into your payload. Either one of those trailers, full, would likely exceed the capability of a small car.

I definitely would not want to do it during the winter.

B9 allroad owner here. I guess I don't have enough experience around turbos, but the lag on this car is nil. Either way, I can't complain about any 3900lb vehicle that goes point A to point B this capably while getting 38mpg highway...

Well, add some winter tires to that ride and I'm sure you won't have any regrets.

Just picked up the new whip

Holy F, this thing is fancy for a subie. Didn't catch a lot of the details in test ride

Never had voice control for everything like this has. Seats are waaaaay more comfy than all my other subies

A set of mud flaps would go a long way to keeping that new car clean.
