Check with you Auto Insurance! $$$$

Wow! There can be a great benefit from checking with your insurance company to make sure your records are in order. They are probably going to refund me $250 and I'll save another $250 in future premiums!

I needed a new proof of insurance sent. I called USAA and asked for it. As long as I was on the phone, I decided to ask when the speeding tickedt would come off my record. They informed me that I had two tickets listed. I was dumbfounded because I only knew of one. I was told that if the second ticket was infact false, my insurance would be $250 less per year (and this ticket was almost two years ago!). So I quickly called the DMV. They said I only had one ticket on record: an out of state ticket from Kansas. I called the insurance company back and explained what the DMV told me. After being on hold a few minutes, they informed me they had mistakenly recorded the same ticket twice. Once from Kansas, and then again when it was reffered back to the other DMV! The CSR wrote the report up while I was on the phone and sent it to the underwriter.

That certainly adds some cheer to my day.

Check your records! Make sure you aren't being wrongly charged!

It's funny how they never seem to make a mistake in your favor. All their mistakes cost us money.

Well, they forgot to increase my insurance after my last speeding ticket. Hope it doesn't come back to bite me in the ass.

USAA will nickel-and-dime you in every way imagineable - including making stuff up.

My experiences with them were so bad, I went to geico.

Funny though, my parents and grandparents fared fine.

Every experience I've had with USAA has been exemplary.

I'm surprised, that's the first poor experience I've heard of them. I'm sure every large company has some dissatisfied customers, but among my friends and family that use USAA we've all been quite happy.

Edit: for those that aren't in the know USAA is an insurance company for military officers and their dependants (but once you're in, you're in)

I am paying 900 bucks a year for full coverage on a WRX... I am never talking to them again in fear of them catching some type of mistake.

i, too, have been blown away by USAA's service.... seriously good shit. whether it's doing a chargeback on my cc b/c of ebay fraud or just calling them b/c i forgot my password for online banking, they've always been top notch.

and, at least as far as banking with them's concerned...my experience has been quite the opposite of nickel and diming.

Another vote for USAA. I have them for both Auto and Homeowners insurance. As much as I loathe insurance companies, these guys rock. Our basement flooded out several years ago (along with just about everybody else in a 30 mile radius). USAA was prompt about sending someone to assess the damage. They had to call damage assessers in from all over the country to handle the number of flooded basements, but nevertheless, they did. The assessment was dead on in terms of money. We redid our entire basement and came within a few $20s of the amount they gave us.

USAA Rocks. I have never had a bad experience. Everything is very cheap and the people are great. For better or worse I seem to be slowly moving all my insurance/financial needs in their direction.

I love USAA. This is the only problem I've ever had with them and they are doing their utmost to make it right.
