Tour of Georgia final results: US sweep

Tom D of Discovery wins the race. This guy is up and coming, and might be the new "boss" of Discovery when lance retires at the end of this year. Also good to see Floyd up there....

    2. Levi Leipheimer (USA) Gerolsteiner at 4sec
    3. Floyd Landis (USA) Phonak 9sec
    4. Bobby Julich (USA) Team CSC 1min 10sec
    5. Lance Armstrong (USA) Discovery Channel 1min 41sec
    6. David Zabriskie (USA) Team CSC 3min 4sec

    8. Nathan O'Neill (AUS) Navigators Insurance 3min 14sec

Nice win by Tommy D, although he has won two shorter stage races, Georgia 2005 and Malaysia 2003, it will be interesting to see how he fares at the Giro in May, he will be riding in support of Savoldelli, a former Giro winner.

Too bad there was no TV coverage, it would have been great to see the Brasstown stage where Lance, riding for Danielson at that point, attacked and set Danielson up for the stage win. Apparently over the last 4-5k, Leipheimmer kept telling Danielson, "you're not going to drop me", which he eventually did.

No Giro or Vuelta on OLN, only updates on Sunday, just as bad as the CBS tour coverage.

I can recall that at least 3 ago years watching the entire Giro live on OLN, I would think that the cycling viewership has grown since then. Apparently the PBR Tour draws the big numbers.

I always like to see Leipheimer up there. He is the only cyclist from Montana to ever ride in the TdF. Good stuff there.

I know, total bull chit. There is only one PBR to me, the kind I am drinking right now. NO damn prof. bull riding. So bull shit. OLN needs to step it up and cover more bike races, especially mountain, which is about nonexistent on the tube.
A gay-rage full of toys. You can guess em.

OLN has come to their senses...sort of:

    OLN/Giro coverage press release

Expanded Saturday/Sunday coverage and for $5.95 streaming live feed of the weekday stages, for $5.95 I'll give it a try.

yes! got back from a ride this afternoon, flipped on OLN and what do my ears sense? why, its Phil L. yelling something like "Danielsen is really putting the hammer down on Levi, Levi is in a world of pain, he is going to CRACK!" Nice!

Looks like OLN will show the Giro on Sat and Sun in May...kinda a weekly recap of all the stages....they showed the ToG last 2 stages today, pretty cool (even if its a week old...)

I don't have OLN, I would have liked to seen the footage of the Brasstown stage. There was a Danielson celebration/screening of the OLN coverage at a brewpub here in Durango, unfortunately I was out skiing.

In addition to the Sat/Sun live coverage of the Giro, they will be streaming live coverage during the week, here is the press release:

"STAMFORD, CT (April 28, 2005) – OLN®, the home of professional cycling, today announced an expanded weekend schedule of same-day coverage for the 2005 Giro d’Italia, the 88th edition of the Italian national tour, along with an exclusive option to view streaming, live world feed of weekday stages on the network’s Web site, OLNTV.com.
OLN’s Cyclysm television coverage will be hosted by cycling experts Phil Liggett, Paul Sherwen and Bob Roll and will include same-day coverage of the race on Saturdays and Sundays at 5 p.m. ET beginning May 7. For cycling fans longing for minute-by-minute Giro action weekdays, OLNTV.com will offer streaming video of the world feed and archives of those stages. Cycling fans will be able to watch all the action of the Italian Grand Tour online without commercial interruption for only $5.95.
Between the network’s television and Web coverage, sports fans will have a first-hand look at all of the ups and downs of the 2005 Giro experience. America’s Discovery Team, with 2002 winner Paolo Savoldelli, is in top form to take first place, but they’ll have to contend with 21 other teams, which include 2004’s defending champion Damiano Cunego and his teammate Gilberto Simoni, who won in both 2001 and 2003. Far from a three-man race, other hopefuls include Ivan Basso, who placed third in last year’s Tour de France, and four-stage 2003 Tour winner Alessandro Petacchi, who set a record-winning, nine-stage sweep at last year’s Giro. Stefano Garzelli of Liquigas-Bianchi could also be a strong Giro contender.
On the heels of Lance Armstrong’s announcement to retire after his quest this July for a seventh consecutive Tour de France title, the Giro is sure to provide edge-of-your-seat thrills as cycling fans around the globe tune in to assess the form of some of his biggest rivals. The 21-day race features arduous climbs through the Dolomites and the Central Alps and is sure to provide ample drama throughout OLN’s weekend television coverage and LIVE weekday world feed on OLNTV.com.

The television schedule for the Giro d’Italia follows (same-day; subject to change):

    Saturdays, 5-7 p.m. ET
May 7: Prologue TT – Reggio Calabria (1.15 km)

May 14: Stage 7 – Marina de Grosseto to Pistoia (205 km)

May 21: Stage 13 – Mezzocorona to Ortisei (217 km)

May 28: Stage 19 – Savigliano to Sestriere (190 km)

    Sundays, 5-7 p.m. ET
May 8: Stage 1 – Reggio Calabria to Tropea (208 km)

    May 15: Stage 8 – Lamporecchio to Florence - ITT (41 km)

May 22: Stage 14 – Egna to Livigno (210 km)

May 29: Stage 20 – Albese con Cassano to Milan (121 km)"
