Anyone heading to JT for MTN Bike weekend? I think this is suppposed to be the last one at JT.

WHAT?! This is the last time they're having this at JT? Damn. The JT mountain bike weekend is responsible for first getting me into mountain biking years ago (holy crap...I guess it's 8 years ago now?..yikes.)

Anyway, mountain biking in Jim Thorpe rules.

I LOOOOOOOOOOVVVVE Jim Thorpe. The town, people, trails, architecture, everything about it. But sadly, it looks like Snowshoe is going to command my schedule this year.

Last I heard most of Thorpe's trails had been shut down for hunting and other ridiculous reasons. It's really very very sad, considering how sweet those trails are! They definitely rival some of the trails out west for technical challenge and singletrack fun.

Note: shut down only means illegal to ride... not destroyed and made unrideable

Yeah, the PA Game Commision blows, makes no sense. I think there is a lot of poachin goin on though.

can't make it this weekend. But do any Delaware/Lehigh valley area folks want to join me next tuesday for a 100 mile road ride? I'm doing my own Summer Solstice Century, and wouldn't mind some riding partners- even if you only want to ride with me part way.

It's not got an artificial-touristy feel, ... yet (well, maybe just a little, but not near as much as other places).

Every time I've stopped in the Molly Maguries pub, there's always been a mix of locals, some weekend Harley riders (the tattooed variety, not the weekend doctor/dentist/lawyer types), and some mountain bikers. Lately there's been far fewer mountain bikers than in years past. The state game lands restrictions is a cause of that, and this past winter's ice storms have made it worse ---portions of several trails are still impassable with blow-downs and obstructions.

The above post is more or less on target. A business property owner there told me the only one who benefitted from it was the event planning company that put it on (basically one guy who rents the park for the weekend), and so no big push by locals to continue it.
