So all those young tech billionaires?....

I think it's more a deceitful lie to all the low cortical people that they too can succeed, when really you have to be smart and innovative. So I can understand all the vitriol about lack of upward mobility on TGR. I mean, just look at Dunfee-- hes made it, bro.

Anyways who cares? Baltimore is a shitty city anyway...

Yo deebased you understand the difference between possible and probable ? You understand rich is a relative value and that it's impossible in this system for everyone to be rich ? Your pull yourself up by the bootstraps routine is played out and wrong but even you would have to agree that even if it is due to their own laziness (lol check those productivity numbers) only a small % will ever be rich and thus it's incredibly stupid for everyone to vote like they are rich. People in this country vote like retards, regardless of your political persuasion this is patently true to the even dumbest of dumb.
I'd love to agree with you, except a rational review of household net worth shows statistics that drastically counter your vantage.

Do you have an example from another country where 1% of the house holds have gained millionaire status in a single year? This discussion has nothing about laziness, bootstraps or anything else. Its about opportunity and America leads the country's in creating millionares per capita by an order of magnitude.

Of course Rich is relative term just like so many other relative words used on this forum that can be parsed in any number of ways. But even though household net worth over 1M isn't fuck you rich, its still pretty damn wealthy to most people on this board.

yes Americans vote like Idiots, not sure its substantially different then any other country on the planet and yet the country continues to flourish

    Sweet proof bro

"The total number of millionaire households (in U.S. dollar terms) reached 16.3 million in 2013, up strongly from 13.7 million in 2012 and representing 1.1 percent of all households globally. The U.S. had the highest number of millionaire households (7.1 million), as well as the highest number of new millionaires (1.1 million)."

1.1 fucking new millionaires in one fucking year. Any idea how many households there are in the US? ~120 Million. So last year alone 1% ONE FUCKING PERCENT of the population made it into the million + realm.

Sadly, I think the irony of your name in this situation is lost upon you. I was just saying that these were kids w/ business ideas who did not previously come from elite families.

These kids are now rich and succesful beyond imaginable. You just neeed to be smart and work hard.

Once you are done bitching about America, tell me about upwards mobility in a country like Russia.

The "1%" everyone hates, makes 250k+ a year. Which IMO is not a huge income.

There is a much smaller pocket of ultra wealthy individuals (billionaires), but the 1% as a whole is too large of a subsection to blame.

Not sure how much you pay attention. I can tell you most of my friends from school who've had funded startups are from wealthy families. Hard work gets you far, especially if you start on third base.
That isn't to say they haven't worked for it, but knowing how to move in the circles of the people who have the money to fund you is a helpful skill and not easily learned unless it's your world. Not sure about the rest if the thread since I haven't read it yet

As for the IBT article you linked about millionaires, it refers to people who have a net worth of >$1M, not earnings. And if you read the paper it's based on, you'll see that the recent growth in global wealth was mostly due to returns on and/or appreciation of existing assets, i.e. equities and real property. That's not socio-economic mobility.

    ^^ Yep.

Net worth of $1 million counting home value isn't shit these days. Not to mention most of those homes aren't paid off and are really owned by the bank.

These people should be lining up on the Danish border instead. Heck, according to the Gatsby chart even Canada and Pakistan are better than this shithole.
