End-Of-Life Purchases

Not very exciting, but definitely the end-all.

I used to think my Toyota Tacoma was an EOL truck. It's 7 years old with 70k km, it should be good for at least 300k km which at present usage puts me at about 75yo. The only problem is I'll probably want a new one when they come out with all electric ones and gas is $20/l.

On a completely different level than anything mentioned before, but this morning my 2.5 year old son and I were having a tea party with his little tin tea set. It was just really nice and I suspect that if he has kids someday, they'll be able to play with the same tea set when they come to visit (and maybe his kids' kids if I happen to be still around). It just has a totally different feel than most of his plastic toys.

My old 1960 Willys CJ5 was gonna be a lifetime purchase. Unfortunately I fell asleep driving it and things didn't end well. 25 years later and it still bugs me that I did that.

True true. Yeah that's the second biggest use of my 9 lives so far. I had 18 fractures in my skull (from bouncing off the road head first) and was covered in scrapes, bruises and a bunch of glass cuts. It was messy.

Actually I think that’s a perfect example of something for this thread. Related to that, we set up my mother-in-law’s train set every Christmas, and I believe that was from her father.

I picked up a damn near mint '84 Schwinn Airdyne last week. It's a tank, everything but the seat is steel. Should be good for at least another 35 years of ass kicking.

Nice. I had an 84 World Sport for a bunch of years, however the rear wheel dropout(?) where the derailleur bolts on bent and made the bike dangerous. It was good while it lasted. So it was not an EOL purchase, but I was 15 when I got it. Teenage transportation for those who couldn't afford cars.

I just drove my buddy back and forth to his first glaucoma operation, and I'm impressed with the results. They say you'll be back to 20-20 when both eyes are done, and it's a pretty common procedure. My next big medical purchase, if a fake knee doesn't happen first.

Hoping to complete a remodel in a year or so. Part of it will be a huge garage with room for a woodworking shop. I was putting together my dream shop on grizzly.com the other day and realized I can get basically everything I want for way less than $10,000. All of it should last well beyond the the rest of my life, and it will all be about the cost of one really high-end mountain bike, or way less than a shitty camper that will fall apart in ten years, or lots of other things. That seems like a pretty good value.
