I went through 3 or 4 saddles before i found one that felt good. The Selle Italia SLR and SLR XP are death, rode them for a while until my butt hurt so bad I couldn't any longer. This is after I've already been riding for months, not just getting back on the bike.

Now I have the Selle Italia SLR Gel Flow and love it. It's still pretty light, but soft enough I can ride for 5 or 6 hours and feel fine.

saddles being inherently a personal choice I would offer up this advice. IF you have a local bike shop, LBS, that has a brain in their cash register, you should be able to "demo" saddles. That said, there are shops in my area that will sell you a saddle or stem. After some riding, enough to evaluate, not enough to abuse, if the item purchased is not suitable then you try another one. Again, if it is all scratched up, cross threaded, fabric torn whatever, then SOL. good luck.

If your local shop has it try the SERFAS Vado or Cosmos. I love the Cosmos on the road and the Vado for everything else, but the Vado may be a bit narrow for you.

I ride the Selle Italia SLK on my roadie. It's pretty comfy for a super lightweight saddle. There is also a gelflow version that only adds another 50 grams of so.

    Saddles are like ski boots.

You have to get the one that's right for you, period. A good bikefitter can give you pointers, but you have to try them for yourself.
    It's idomatic, beatch.
