    Question Salomon Somatic Scream Jacket

Anyone use this coat? 3 layer Gore-Tex "Somatic" which I'm assuming is GTX SoftTech, judging by the description of it. Seems like a super nice coat, removable hood, powder skirt, vents, totally seam sealed. I did a search and found info on Salomon softshells but very little on their hardshells. How is this thing durability wise and how is the fit? Is it cut long or is it a shorty coat design(which I hate). Thanks for any info you can give me about this coat.

I have the next one up, the AK jacket, and it kicks serious ass. Everyone I know that has it loves it. Completly bomber, I'm always hitting branches and there isn't a single mark on it. The pow skirt is great, it has the arm cuffs and it vents well. Haven't had any problems during huge storms, stays completly dry on the inside. I've heard other good things from friends with the Scream jacket, it's just a bit lighter.

The fit is euro size so it's pretty clean cut. I have the xl and it's much more form fitting than my previous xl marmot. I need a large for fit, but the xl for sleeve length normally but this fits both real well. I don't think it's a short cut by any means.

    Hope that helps.

Awesome. I think I'll order this thing up. I'm looking for something that is above all else bomber and waterproof for deep pow days or storm days. Sounds like this is the right coat for me then.

Where are you ordering it from? I can't find any online dealers that carry the AK Rocket Jacket. I was thinking about getting it at the beginning of the season but gave up when I couldn't find a place to buy it.

I was thinking of a Large, I'm like 5'8'' 140-145 lbs, and I like things slightly big on me, is that the right size for me?

That's funny, those are the things that I like. Actually, you did remind me that the pit zip zippers can be difficult at times to close. I think it's mostly due to the sealed zippers?

Pulling the trigger on this coat this morning. It was this or an Arcteryx Sidewinder AR(last years sans hood), but other Arc stuff I have is (IMHO) cut too short and is way too robotic looking, plus a hood is a nice option to have. Plus, the SoftTech/Somatic stuff will prolly be more comfy.

No matter what it'll be an improvement over my way too insulated and not at all waterproof 5 year old Fate coat, which will stick around for cold, dry days. I'm sick of gettin wet on powder days.

I'm usually a "large" guy and my solly XL puffy is almost too small...

same company / design style. salomon stuff is very similer to arcteryx imo.

You know, I was just wondering the same thing. All these people seem to know where they can find the gear but nobody seems to want to share.

    Slim, try here: http://www.backcountry.com/store/SAL...cket-Mens.html

Gonzo, how tall/heavy are you (as I said before, I'm about 5'8'' 140ish pounds)? All my everyday clothes are like medium or sometimes small, so I'm assuming gettin this thing in a Large should give me plenty of layering room and length.

Oh yeah, and does anyone know what Gore-Tex "Somatic" is exactly? The GTX website has descriptions of 2 and 3 layer XCR and GoreTex SoftTech, but no mention of the claimed "3 Layer Somatic GTX" that this coat is made of, although from the description of it it sounds the most like SoftTech. Any more info on it would be great though.

I'm about the same size (heavier, though), have a somewhat older Salomon jacket in a medium, and it is about perfect for me (I rock a suit jacket size 41-42). Think the cut is about the same on the newer ones.

Gladeboy, hit the sales this summer. You'll be able to try something one and get it for 50% off. Hell, with all the gear you buy, you could prolly fly to Colorado, get your shit, and the plane ticket would be free. Or...save your money for skiing. Gear isn't that important.
