ok simple math try and follow along. I work about 25-30 hours for my "salaried" full time job (getting paid for 40hrs), but i get to do this from home, which is much easier than doing it in an office and commuting. Spread this out over 7 days and it is only 4 hours or less a day. Then after that I work 2-3 night shifts of 10 hours at my part-time job. So 50-60 hours a week, but with the flexibility to drop to 0hours at a moments notice.....I QUIT. I usually squeze the majority of both of these jobs into the first 3 days of the week. Working 16-18 hours a day for 3 days in a row, leaving 4 days to have fun. Work hard, play hard.

Somewhere between 24 and 140 + classes + volunteer work. Average is 60 + the extras.

In my job I work a 76hr fortnight. This includes the weekends off and every second Monday off. Like someone else said, I work in a highly repetitive and physical job and feel wrecked at the end of the day.

I always end up working overtime ( 20hrs per period) , because there is usually so much I need /want to do. However I do take alot of time off in our winter and usually take around 2 months to go to BC. So in my mind all works out in the end.

I could work other jobs for more $$ and do alot more hrs, but not have the freedom or the opportunity to work in an industry that I love. For that I accept what its brings.

    When I was 17, 65+ hours.
    When I was 27, 40+ hours.
    I am now 37 (almost), 10 hours.

If you are paid hourly, I understand your work ethics.
If you are paid salary, work the minimum, but do it well.

Well, I generally come in at least fifteen minutes late, ah, I use the side door - that way Lumbergh can't see me, heh - after that I sorta space out for an hour.

Yeah, I just stare at my desk, but it looks like I'm working. I do that for probably another hour after lunch too, I'd say in a given week I probably only do about fifteen minutes of real, actual, work.

24 on and 24 off for four days and then 6 days off. Ends up being 10 shifts a month.

I feel like I have it pretty sweet compared to many others. I usually work 40 hours per week, no more, no less. There have been periods of time where overtime was necessary, but it's an exception for me. I'm a salaried employee, but I do get paid for overtime--not 1.5 X time, but it is more than regular time. Also, my work schedule is pretty good. I work a 9/80 schedule which means I work 80 hours in 9 days rather than the standard ten. So, I get every other Friday off, which is nice. The Fridays I do work I work from home.

My salary is only o.k., but with the schedule flexibility and lack of stress I'm pretty happy.

EDIT: oh yeah, another thing that's pretty nice is my company shuts down the week between Christmas and New Years

40 hours a week. Every weekend off and i love my not so stressful job and the fact that i work with several maggots doesn't suck either.

Oh, and the gear is really facking cheap.

I work 50 to 55 hours a week. Hours are 7 to 5 but often end up staying later

before going back to school i was doing 50 - 65 / week, with the occasional 80 thrown in.

last semester i was still pullin down 35 - 40 hours a week while taking a full load. i realize a lot of folks can cut that and stay sane...but i'm not that kinda hoss... i got my hours cut down to 20-ish, which works -- though it sucks not having any money.

looks like this summer i'll be doing the 50 - 65 thing again.

I came from a long hours kind of job and am now hitting 40 per.

IMVHO: If you find yourself working a lot you had DAMN WELL BETTER have a very specific and tangible goal for doing so, otherwise you're just pissing away your life. I know a lot of people who are 40-50yrs old and are nothing more than slaves to their job. They know nothing else and have nothing else in their lives. Fucking sad. If you're not enjoying your life then you are not enjoying your life and that is fucking pathetic.

Make sure the ends really do justify the means. Put another way, make sure the juice is worth the squeeze [/TGND ref]

I work a 40 hr week. Not 100% of it is on task, but I'd say that's true for most. I always get everything I need to get done in those 40 hrs. though, even if it means clocking out and staying late if I goofed off too much or had a sick day/vacation that put me behind. And fortunately have a great team that minimizes the frustration factor of having people who do not pull their weight/can't communicate/hold things up.

To survive this cubicle existence, I post here and other places while waiting for stuff to upload or to sort of hit the "reset" button in my head when I get the caged feelilng. I'm also lucky enough to be close to home so I can bop home for lunch most days and spend a 1/2 hr with my honey.

I also work out--a lot--to deal w/ the tension of being pent up in this cel. Needless to say, I'm out of this situation as soon as possible (in 7 years to be exact) and will likely opt for a job in the great outdoors even if it means less $$.

I used to be a slave to a corporate job and then I decided to retire early and moved to a ski town. lifes too short to waste working for the man. find someplace cool to go be happy and young. money won't matter and everything will have a way of working out if you do the right thing.

40 hours per week. No more, no less. 7:00-4:30 with every other friday off. Any time spent doing non-fun stuff is for profit, like meatdrink said. If you find yourself working 60-70 hours per week and are salaried you should take a good look at your productivity. I work with a couple people who could spend 12 hours a day organizing the post its on their desk. Because they don't know any other way to function. And we all work with the guy who fucks around all day until about 2:00 and then starts working and makes sure everybody knows he is staying late and takes pride in his grueling 60 hr work week. Work smarter, not harder.

ha - Im early retirement too. Dont know if its too late to tell you but we're heading to give fissile a go on Friday - don't know if we can get it - pretty warm out there and then up to Duffy for north facing stuff on weekend. Im in bayshores so can give you a ride; are you in pemby or something? Do you have any bc gear?

edit - sorry to be a stalker but its hard to find people who can do stuff any time; all my buddies are either cubicle lifers or have kids now.

I'm the boss, so I work when it suits me. However, I didn't get to be the boss by slacking and I don't get to keep it by slacking.

I work out from 7 to 8 every morning, then work straight through, lunch at my desk until anywhere from 4:30 to 9:00. Sometimes I'll work 14 days in a row, other times I'll take a 6 day weekend. I probably average 50 hours.

It's all alot better than my fishing days - I worked 5 months with one day off one year. Longlining was the worst - 14 to 20 days of 20 hours/day with one day in town between trips. In town, we'd work only 10 or 12 hours then get drunk. Next morning back to sea.

45-50 a week. Weekends are all mine.

Up until 2 years ago, it was 50-65hrs a week, but I dropped the pt gig.

You start getting up over 60hrs a week, you're just working too much to make someone else $$, and neglecting either yourself and/or your family.

    (Unless you're working for YOURSELF.)

45 hours tweezing the electrons for the graphic arts.
I am fresh outta college. I spent the summer shaking the 'pregame-real-world jitters' surfing in Costa Rica. I was blessed to secure a job within the Orthopedic Sales sector. I have been working for this company since last October. I have been averaging 65-70 hours a week. I figure what the hell? I don't have a family and my lady friend understands the hours I am logging. I love what I am doing, and I feel these long hours are the only way I am going to get ahead in this field. The Alpha in me wants to destroy all of the other sales reps. But I am starting to feel emotionally malnourished as soon as I step out these doors at 9:00 p.m. every night.
What is it that you do to break up the monotony of your work schedule?
    Espresso, music, harassing the innocent.net.
What do you do to keep yourself balanced during the week?….flame away...

    Angry

After a couple of years you stop counting working hours but rather count those you weren't out skiing when running your own business.
