    story was origionally written in 1987, based on a cave found in utah. Many of the details of the actual cave are true except the petrogyph and round rock and the whole scare story...

    I'm pretty sure i read the short story in high school. Pretty talented author. Sadly it has been copied all over the 'net with out him getting any credit.

    You gotta have a permit to get into the cave as it is right above the interstate. I guess a few cars have been hit or ran over rocks from dipshits trying to get into the cave.

    edit: not written in 87, but later...the copies of the story say 87 i guess.

    That cave has the looks of a Spanish gold stash. The Spaniards were famous for sealing their gold behind caliche walls over caves or mines that would look just like that. The entire Southwest, including Nevada and Utah, have them. Some have been found, others are yet to be found. But many a treasure was taken from them. Funny that the adventure suddenly ended.
