In Portland the sandwich scene is such shit that we just eat burritos instead. And those have to come from the east side or Hillsboro, or they suck. The best quickie eat around here, on the west side, is pizza (schmizza or hot lips) or indian from the roach coach

I hope this is a BRAND you're referring to, and not an ACTUAL pickle. You do understand that a pickle from a restaurant lives in a virtual cesspool of human filth until the moment it comes paired with your sloppy wet sandwich, yes?

    dammit, where's the pukey icon?

edit: Ice - Taking the kids fishing at Black Hills today. I may just have to call you later on & find out exactly where this deli joint of yours is...

edit2: Thanks, Ice! That place is awesome!
Now that's the kind of Italian place I was talkin' about! Man, I was like a kid in a candy store! 3 sandwiches, 2 cheeses, 1 bread. I should have picked up a couple dessert cakes & a bottle or 2 of wine. That is a GREAT market.

(That fresh mozz they keep at the register looks incredible too!)

You have an Indian Food Roach Coach???
FKNA (or perhaps I should say "Jesus H. Vishnu")
    I'm jealous.
Does it look like one of those over-decorated Indian busses?
If not, you should make a suggestion that the roach coach be made more authentic.

There´s at least 3 or 4 in downtown PDx. The best is the chaat house, a block or so behind the library.

Gyptian, the diesel fumes are getting to your brain again.

Dude you should have bought some, they make it fresh in the store every day, it's great.

Glad you enjoyed the place, I told you it kicks.

When I lived in SLC it was Gandolfos Deli. Some good fucking sandwiches there. No good sandwich joints here, but the deli has some good cappicoli so i can make my own.

Pinner, you can't really compare mendleson's to fontanos they're totally different. I do like mendy's (actually, for whatever reason (beer) I like the NYD on 17th more = same place) and they do have good deli sammys but no eyetalian style. try the combo, you will like it (italian sausage and italian beef, get it with the hot peppers and provolone cheese).

    Plus, mendy's is spendy. Ouch.

Other great big jewish sammys = NY Deli News or the NY Bagel Deli (both between 25 & Tamarac)

Can I ask you, what is a jewish sammy??? Is it a sandwitch without a moyle?

I defer to the higher brain power and advanced epicurian evolvement of the esteemed Lemon Man.

You're right, Mendy's and Font's are totally different universes.

I never noticed Mendy's = Spendy until today when a small 'strami sammy, bagga chips and a Coke came to $9.00!

Farq dat! I'm heading to Anthony's for a cheap slice tomorrow.

Spicy pickle is indeed a brand. Unfortunately also on the spendy side.

Other sandwich places that don't suck Tony Capputo's in SLC. Granato's in SLC. And as far as chains go...Blimpie rocks the house over subway and quiznos. The Blimpies Best rocks my world. I usually order the foot long and don't stop for a breath until it's done. Then I hurt for some time.
