Yeah, this single, 27, no house, and making just enough in engineering to get royally screwed. Actually, it wouldn't have been too bad, but I made a few short-term capital gains which hurts as far as the tax goes. I don't really have anything to deduct (ergo, standard deduction), but I always wonder if some tax magician could figure out a way to make it better. Am I getting screwed by taking the simple way?

I used to complain about taxes. Then I watched someone go through a seven year audit.

No. But get a house seriously. Living in it is not really a requirement. I'm three years into homeownership. I've got my mortgage (30yr fixed) down to the cost of what an average appt. would cost to rent, the interest deduction is huge, I'm building equity and the hassles are minimal. My effective federal income tax is 18% with no other fancyness.

$3K+ to be mailed out today. I just got back from Vegas, and I didn't win there either!

Yeah, obviously I wasn't having enough taken out at work. I just went in and did the W-4 worksheet. This is the part that kills me. After filling out the section for itemized deductions it said I should take 4 exemptions. THEN, after completing the dual wage earner section, it said I should take zero exemptions and put in an additional $200 every two week pay period. That's quite a swing, and not in a good way.

I am a homeowner too. This year's tax REFUND is going towards homeimprovement and my future quiver.

Next time somebody asks you "Did you make any income outside the United States, you say NO!

Why should the US Govt tax shit made in another country, when that other country's govt is already taxing the shit out of the shit a person makes in that country? Conversely, that other country also wants to tax shit that that person made here in the US, which the US has already taxed them for!
i haven't paid 1 cent in tax in 8 years and usually it's a couple hundred bucks in refund. you get a significant deduction for foreign earned income, then the alternative minimum tax knocks it down to zero or a refund. pick the right country (switzerland) and you will pay about 30% less in overall taxes than in the USA alone. working overseas is a pretty sweet deal....

Consider starting a business. Last year was my first season working as a fishing guide so I was able to write off the boat and a shitload of gear. You get three years before you have to show a profit.

I need more than one drink....

Couldn't write the check because I don't have 3g's lying around, then had to spend my last 6.54 of spare change just to buy enough gas to drive home.

Check sent $6.5k. Divorce killed my finances but resurrected my soul. Good trade I think.

Exactly fack dem pricks. They always taking from the little man. I am going to have to pay a little late this year, but oh well. It should only be about 10 bucks in penalty. But when you live check to check, it sucks. Now I got to pay the man back too. WTF. I filed, but aint got no dough. Thinking about charging it, but that would cost me more than sending a check later this month.

    Damn taxes.

    Working on it.

Trying to figure out what to sell to come up with 2 grand. Man, delivering pizza was so much better, easier and yes they paid me on Tax day and I made about the same as I do now including tips, which aren't as taxable.

It really hurts that my brother is younger than me, owns his own house, has no car payments or really any debt other than his mortgage(his monthly payment is half my rent), works at Outback and is getting money back.

Colorado vs. West Virginia, oh the advantages sure are clear today.

I made a pretty sizable negative number this year so I should be getting money back on my past three years of income taxes my magic accountant says. Don't know for sure how much yet. It's a nice change since I wrote a large check last year for taxes.

11:58pm - I bought stamps from the dude parked next to me.
11:59pm - I put the envelopes in the basket on the last batch getting marked 4/15/05
12:00 - planning to spend the refund before I get it and dodge the audit until I fake my death.
