Aesop Rock - 1000 Deaths (kinda bouncy but still thoughtful)
Radiohead - The tourist (slow and soulful)
The Mars Volta - Inertiac ESP (fast and crazy)
Sublime - Pawn Shop (always liked it for a chilled out mood)
Minus the bear (awesome band) - almost anything, but I like "Lemurs, Man, Lemurs" for a good chilled ski rock song.

    Mainstream doesn't always totally suck.

    TOOL

you got your slow tool, your meduim rocking tool, and your ass kicking tool - sometimes all in the same song

Parabol / Parabola would be SWEET in a ski video. Lots of oportunites to sync stuff, its even better if you apply the lyrics to skiing.

Having been there and done that, something by Elmore James seems appropriate, maybe, It Hurts Me Too.

Thanks for the suggestions. The day seemed pretty mellow, just physical effort.

I'll search the suggestions and try to figure it out.

Shepard Wong beat you to it, but his reference was too subtle I guess.

I definitely think use of the TP theme would be cool - start the video with that slow plodding music, some slow mo, some panoramas, then shift gears into whatever music you want.
It would be very cool to do TP music for the TP video.

Tool almost always works for videos…especially their longer songs.

Here are two I made with Tool as the soundtrack.

my only question is - how were you able to get out of the sack at 7:20 this morning to post in this thread? I just got to work and I'm still wasted after nearly 11 hours of sleep.

I had this Manu Chau (spellling?) song in my head the whole way up, the line they say in Spanish "quando llegare?" sung "cuand o lle gar e?" meaning "when will I arrive?" It was obsessive in my mind the entire way up.

How about Neil Young? I still remember the scene from the old snowboarding film "The Garden". They used "Heart of Gold" and it fit perfect.

or how about some Floyd? "Fearless" "Learning to Fly" "Have a Cigar"

    Maybe Rush or Hendrix.

"Treetop Flyer" by Stephen Stills? Kind of slow, but a pretty song. Might work for the approach footage.

One more to add: Keane, "Somewhere Only We Know" from the Hopes and Fears album.

If it helps, I was listening to John Coltrane the entire way up. It was very mellow vibe in the dark, and a good way to keep my mind off the physical effort - but I don't think he'd be the best selection for the vid.

Well, since I have an unusually keen interest in music that not many people have heard before- I'd really like for you to find this song:

    17 years by Ratatat
    - it has the perfect feel for a ski video, starts off slow then totally picks up but with a consistent beat throughout

Also check out a song called The Power is On by the Go! Team.

Do it.... you know you want to.

check out this song: Ra - Fallen Angels

mainstream but i think would work good in a ski flick.

Anything off of the M.I.A. album Arular. Bingo or Hombre would both be good.

Anybody else like her? I haven't been able to get that album out of my car stereo since it came out.

^ hahahhaha oh my goodness! I was going to suggest her also, but I was thinking that she might be a little too different for his tastes. M.I.A. is hands-down my favorite artist right now, I need more of her songs though, I only have Galang, Hombre, Fire Fire and Sunshowers.
