Those Red Octobers look sick. Looks like they get second to market with a Spatula type of ski. Gotta love the "boards of canada" tune in the video as well.
agreed...they look sick. like the name too. However, the Birdo's are already on the market for a Spatula-esque ski...they've been on sale at a Tahoe shop for a while now..super pricey though.Originally Posted by meatdrink9

couple asym side cuts too. interesting.
nice design work on all those skis.
I love this from the ahma description:Originally Posted by basom

Clearcoat over red flannel. I guess it's not groundbreaking since the SP's had the plaid fabric under part of the topsheet, but that's still pretty friggin cool.

I saw one of these guys skiing the ahma he built out on mt. rose. They looked like some fun sticks.
Naming a spatular plank "red oktober" is kinda oyxmoronic, eh?

^haha, wow, good observation.
i shred the gnar
I talked to the guy who built these skis, said he built them with a bit too much negative camber, as bad as the Spatulas are on groomers, can you imaging them being even worse?
Tyrone, where are the Birdos in Tahoe?
The dreaded dude, Jay, at Sports LTD at the Y has them.Originally Posted by Darkside

Those Ahmas look nice, but what's with the super low profile tip?
Also, spatula-esque skis should be center balanced and mounted. Otherwise I would think you loose the swingweight advantages of the design.
Still, it's cool to see people playing with ski design.
"I knew in an instant that the three dollars I had spent on wine would not go to waste."
Interestingly, Andy at the peruvian, who has mounted more spats than many, said that shane came by and recommended that all spats, especially those skied mostly in deep pow, be mounted 2 cm back. He said that takes away from their tendency to tip dive in super deep snow. I though that was a little much, so I mounted mine 1 cm back and haven't noticed much difference from center mount.Originally Posted by Arty50
I'd agree with this. Mine are mounted on the line but I find myself wishing for a bit more ski in front of my boot.Originally Posted by natty dread

Cool thread. I love the enthusiasm and creativity those guys are bringing to the game. It would be great to see what they think of the Bro's and to get Bro owners' take on their products as well.
re run but
http://capitalskis.com/
$700 CAD and they will make a full custom ski, ANYTHING
$600 cad ~ $500 US gets you "stock" skis, still lots of options
I like the ski they named "Kung Paoder" although most 'mercans would only get it if spelled Kung Powder.
Doesnt seem like these guys are doing any production yet.
Still just screwing around with R&D and fun protos.
Any Seattle PNW mags seen these guys around?
I like the names these guys are using for the skis:
"Kung Paoder" -- top choice
"Klown Whackers" -- needs some evil clown graphics
"Red Oktober" -- although they shouldn't be submarining, should they...
and, last but not least of my favorites (but least likely name to ever see production by a big ski company) -- "The Shit."![]()
Flash forward to demo day 2007: "Hey bud -- wanna take a run on The Shits?" These skis need a Mr. Hankie graphic.
