All runs down Green Line are ill-advised. And yet usually fun.

With two back to back weekends of robotics competitions behind me, I'm looking forward to getting back out. Just hoping that they will open Fri-Sun this week.

That is kick ass man, grom stoke is unlike any other.

It's funny to me that Magic has a rep as not being a place that's good for beginners to learn- I honestly disagree completely. Sure, it sucks that early season the grooming down low on the "easiest way down" usually blows and the rope tow is akin to wedging on the landing strip of an aircraft carrier at times. Those things need to be addressed of course, but to me it's the complete lack of crowds, almost effortless parental supervision (seeing the rope and tubing areas from the bar, also awesome/familiar/friendly staff, only one base area collection point) and the awesome terrain that really gets kids totally into it and feeling like they're on an adventure. Watching them "be like water" and becoming acclimated to the environment they're raised in is so cool to me, and while some will scoff from across the valley our kids want nothing to do with anyplace else (except the Bromley Tourist Trap in the summer of course).

I have become sort of obsessed with ideas that could help the little ones get into it more. The areas they would like are easy and short so it doesn't take much but the return IMO is infinite. Kids rock, man.

DW: As you know, I finally got the wife and kid there on Sunday. Kristin couldn't believe how we could "just leave the skis and stuff" hanging around without having to lock it up. And, "there are dogs and kids everywhere!" Magic has a reputation of being too core, too steep, too difficult, and I think this deters many families. The uncrowded, laid back vibe that you mention and we all love, is absolutely perfect for kids. Bowyn danced on the deck, played with a dog, skied until he was sore and hungry, and it was a great family day.

Yeah and it makes me sad that we didn't see you guys!

Stoked to hear she had a good time and had begun to see "what it's all about". Sometimes it must sound like we are all on crazy pills saying how fun and inclusive it really is, but it's true. It's like kid and dog Mecca in the spring lol

riding the chair with DW, the Freeride kidzz came bombing down Red Line. Trailing them was a kid that had to be 6,maybe 7. Tiny kid, skiing with his friends and older siblings, having to keep up. That's how my kids learned there.

I think it may be one of the best places for someone (a kid) that has basic skills to progress quickly, if so inclined.

/\ caught them on the best part and they sure did rip it along with the little guy in the back, right over the one dirt patch on the entire line.

Since you broke out the Pom-poms...

I think the lack of crowds is the most under-appreciated aspect of skiing/learning at Magic. Ok, so it's a BIT challenging for novices from the top, but the fact that hordes of people aren't bombing by is a huge plus in my book. We were at Magic's flatter neighbor across the valley on Sunday. It was a mob scene - even on the beginner stuff (with the exception of that PAINFULLY slow triple), and the vibe just wasn't great IMO.

The other thing about Magic that I appreciate as a parent is how everything funnels back to one base. I know where to find my kids if we get split up.

As we were wrapping up our ski day on Saturday, an employee walked up to us and told us about the piñata making station for the kids at the BLT. That was great. My little guy loved it. We then headed out to the deck and I had a beer with JRMagic and some other friends while my boy tuckered himself out playing with all the dogs. It was a great way to end the day.

Some of the dogs were more friendly than others...Click image for larger version.

I couldn't agree more. Having kids and skiing magic is great. The lack of people is extremely comforting when you have an advancing kid. It's a culture shock when we go elsewhere and makes me appreciate magic more. Plus there are so many young kids that tear the place up it's inspiring for the younger kids. Where else can you get wide open skiing on a Saturday like this. Click image for larger version.

Are there any "specials" days in the foreseeable future? Want to hit Magic before the end of the season.

If Throwback Thursdays are still happening I could probably make it down next Thursday...

They are no longer open for throwback Thursdays. I will be taking them up on the Friday deal this week. Too good not too.

We will have to verify via website on that one.

Tough call, weather doesn't look optimal. But NOAA saying most of that will be before opening.

Although with next Friday out of the question...
