I respectively disagree, I took a look at the numbers last year and the hill made way more money on Thursday's selling $15 tickets then they did on Friday's with normal pricing. This is before accounting for the people it brought to the hill for the first time. What does bother me is the discounting they do on peak periods (e.g weekends and holidays) and the season pass strategy.
I like the idea of capping lift ticket sales. We had one day at capacity last year (2nd day of President's Day weekend) when the Red Chair started spinning we had all the chairs full but no lines, we also filled lot two. I'd use this number (which I won't disclose) as the cap.
That's good to hear then. I guess my impression of turnout on Thursdays is different from reality. As always, I think marketing the place as uncrowded is walking a fine line between "Oh, that's great!" and "How come there's nobody there?" I'd really love to see more photos and updates throughout the day that confirm that there are in fact, people enjoying the wonderful skiing and riding opportunities available.
A video sometime in the future....
Sully: "Jim here, slopeside with Mr. and Mrs. DoWork."
Sully: "How are you guy enjoying the skiing and riding at Magic today?"
DW: "Jim, the *bleeping* snow is off the *bleeping* hook today. I just titty*bleeped* Magician!".
MrsDW: "Oh yeah, did he ever!"
Sully: "Well there you have it folks, head on over to Magic, $20 lift tickets and $0.50 wings in the Black Line Tavern all day."

Magic TGR lurker...my 2 cents:
Been skiing Magic for about four years now. Talk it up as much as possible and have certainly brought a few friends to enjoy it. Everyone I bring loves it and is amazed at A) the quality of the terrain and b) that they've never heard of the place before.
I agree wholeheartedly that the mountain needs to do a better job marketing itself. Understanding they can't do much with traditional marketing efforts due to their lack of funds they really need to hammer all forms of social media. The don't put enough effort into their FB page. No excuse for that. I'd same same for Twitter and Instagram.
Side note.... Tuesday was an all time day. Made the Loooong drive from Southcoast Mass and it was beyond worth it per usual. Broke trail on run 3 skiers right (high side) of Talisman. Insanely deep full white room turns.
theres a saying in sales "sell the sizzle not the steak". The experience of skiing Magic is what appeals to us. So what do we like and how do we say it without the "road less traveled, or steeped in...." being misinterpreted as too steep, or vacant?
My kids are older now, and what I liked about the place what they were little is different than it is now. Anyone that sees DJspookman and his house full of wife and daughters at Magic is not going to think it's the raddest place on earth, but that it's a really fine way to share time with your family. Sell that image. Put it in words and post it.
GOB, love to meet and take a run. Most of what they say about me is true though. Not Dex, he's a fucking liar.

Indeed. The best part that we like is the variety! Wifey and I swap skiing with the girls on the groomers to the woods/steeps, keeps us all entertained that way. WE NEED to somehow get the whole picture of the place described and conveyed better EVERYWHERE. Sell the variety, sell the laid back, low pressure environment. Its why we love it!
Social media exposure and updates are CHEAP marketing, I'm still miffed as why there isn't more exposure out there in the interwebzland from the Magicment. So cheap, so easy. 5 minute investment (with proper spelling please!)
Yeah GOB, say hi. I'm a tool who would love to make some turns as well. MMP is just a dick.
Thanks fellas. I've certainly seen a few of you around. Next time I'm up I'll introduce myself. Probably half my trips have been solo, would be nice to ski with others. (though I usually end up finding someone in same boat) While I think I know the place fairly well I'm sure I'm missing a ton not so obvious stuff.
MMP and I have been kicking around some ideas about how to help get the word out and one of the things that we've arrived at is to start tagging pictures or videos you're posting on fb and twitter. If you've got anything recent to share (or not recent, I suppose it doesn't really matter), go ahead and tag it with #THISisMagicMtn If you've got shots of blower pow.. great! If you've got a picture of a sunny picnic on the deck... great! If you've got a picture of the kiddos tearing up a groomer... great! Let's start painting a picture of what it is that we like about the place. Don't forget to also tweet @skimagicvt so that it's easier for it to make its way into their feed as well.
Blue helmet, black jacket, toolbelt. Look for me GOB.
One of the other things that Magic has going for it is that all of the trails lead back to the same base. As a parent of little buggers, this appeals to me. If I somehow end up on a different trail than my kid, I still know I will find him at the bottom. In this respect, Magic is family-friendly in my book.
Jay's pics today are fucking ridiculous!
There is a very, very slim chance I might finally get a break from playing dad this weekend...

It's easy to complain. But in the last week management's marketing group has put this new uphill policy in place, issued a press release, wrote and article for unofficalnetworks and got 10,000 views, 450+ FB likes, and 130 + shares in 24 hours. Cost = some tokens and a few free lift rides, which I bet turns out to be two or three a day.

I'd also say the Instagram feed is pretty good. I see a photo for almost every open day. Huge improvement over last years complete lack of an Instagram feed.
I will be at Magic on Sunday
FUCKING FINALLY!
