HARRISBURG, Pa. - The video from the camera attached to the officer's stun gun shows how David Kassick died, authorities say: two bullets, four seconds apart, fired into his back as he lay face down.

Two months before a police officer was captured on video shooting a South Carolina motorist eight times in the back, Kassick was killed by a Pennsylvania officer who is now charged with criminal homicide.
    From the article

"The ultimate question is, did Officer Mearkle believe that the actions that she took were necessary to prevent death or serious bodily injury? That's the question. It's not what was found after-the-fact," Perry said. His answer? "100 percent."

Crazy that this is actually the legal standard. Did the officer believe there was a possibility of harm. Opps, I thought his finger was a gun.

They hire psychopaths to do a job that requires saintly restraint.

That's about the best summary of the problem I've read so far.

It seems like federal law enforcement agencies have become completely corrupt and incompetent. A lot of local agencies aren't far behind. And all the subcontractors and private prisons are making money off it. It's really disgusting.
    No longer stuck.

Yea, and since they are often the ones called in to investigate police abuse and civil rights violations it makes those investigations less credible. If you are the FBI investigating a police force and the police force knows that the FBI violates civil rights as a course of operations, how can the FBI accuse the police? The police can quietly threaten to bring up the FBI'S tactics.

So now the fucking white house press secretary gets up to the podium to proclaim that all this police abuse doesn't necessarily constitute an increase in violence in the US, it's just that the cops are getting caught more.....essentially saying they were aware this shit has been going on all this time and since there's no measurable increase in violence overall, they don't see a need to do much more than try to assuage the facts. Cocksucker didn't even denounce it!

Was she giving blowjobs to get out of a speeding ticket? Carrying a couple tons of blow?
Why the fuck do four cars of cops need to pull over one chick, who wasn't even handcuffed when we drove by.
So you had no clue what was going on but felt compelled to pull over and film? Ok Bernstein.

Speaking of honorary cops I'm surprised no one has mentioned Alberto Tomba yet. That guy if I recall correctly actually takes/took advantage of the many privileges that came with such an honor, mostly by driving like a madman.

    Ha! Good one DD.

I don't know about you, but unless I see a gun drawn or some other crazy shit going on I'm not taking the time out of my day to stop and film some situation I have no business with.

Maybe you've got more time than I do. Do cops tend to hassle you much? I know you're older and white so I can't really see it but hey, calling out bullshit is a role someone needs to play so go for it man.

NYT piece on the contradiction between DOJ public comments/PD investigations and the DOJ's inputs during Supreme Court cases.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2015/04/22/us...orce.html?_r=1

Similarly, the Justice Department criticized the Sheriff’s Office in Franklin County, Ohio, in 2010 for using stun guns on inmates while they were handcuffed and posed no threat, or when they committed minor rule violations. In a Supreme Court case to be heard this month, the Justice Department has sided with Wisconsin jail officials who used a stun gun on an inmate after he was handcuffed and taken from his cell for refusing to remove a piece of paper covering a light fixture in his cell.

Private civil rights lawyers, though, have been frustrated that the Justice Department’s aggressive stance in civil rights reports does not extend to its positions before the Supreme Court. “A report can have an impact on a department for a time,” said Gary Smith, the lawyer for the driver in the Arkansas case. “But case law touches every officer in every department in the country.”

I hope there are many people lining up to take that money from him. the victim is a piece of shit. But the taxpayers got what they deserve, perhaps if it hits their wallet enough they will vote out the sheriff and rein in the police.

^ that "news" report was total BS.

    Could this be true?:

American police killed more people in March (111) than the entire UK police have killed since 1900

"A total of 111 people were killed by police in the United States in March of 2015. Since 1900, in the entire United Kingdom, 52 people have been killed by police."

Secret Service, the only law enforcement agency in the country that will get in trouble if a black man gets shot.

I get to cover the funeral tomorrow. Yay me.
