    Cuba?

So it looks like I have a free week between vacations. April 22-May1 will be spent with the family in Guatemala and May 8-31 will be spent in Costa Rica surfing with the GF. I'm free from May 1st through the 8th and am thinking of going to Cuba by myself, but don't know anyone who has ever been there.

Does anyone have any rough idea of costs there, how realistic it is to go for only a week, and if I will have any trouble entering the country as an American?

    Thanks!

I was there two years ago and would say that a week is a long time there!! Prices are pretty cheap unless you go to the "Discos" then they charge the same as a US bar. It is well worth the trip!! Bring lots of $1 bills!! Things can get pretty wild there!

Looking around online I read a story about an American couple that spent 6 months in Cuba researching a book about cycling in Cuba and then published the book back in the states...they were surprised they got hit with $55,000 in fines.

Hopefully one week of lying on the beach drinking beer and hiking in the forest will avoid all grapefruit related incidents.

All the people I´ve talked to have been really dug it. The Americans didn´t have a problem getting in, Mexico/Cuba play it very cool. Technically you need a license to travel as a US Citizen, and tourist isn´t one of the categories available, so for travelling there and spending money you face fines if caught. I think W recently increased these as well.

my sister was there for about ten days, on her own, last year. she had a blast. pretty sure she flew into havana from Miami, and returned via there with no issues.

she came back with amazing photos. the place seemed timeless looking through her pics. i wish i was going.....

Hyrupz, you're the 4th Cuban I know who skis. Does your family think you're completely loco too?
