    The Gay Warlock...Reborn

This winter I wanted to turn my 9-year-old 24" dirt jumper trail bike thingee into a buff single speed beast. Well, I'm done and stoked at the results. So stoked I'm starting a new thread.

    Before: Old and ignored.

I found a local place to sandblast and powder coat the frame for pretty cheap ($80). Picked up a Woodman Bill SS built onto a Sun BMF 24" 36 Hole from Unreal Cycles (Thanks Ben!), and just reused the rest of the parts. I polished all the chrome and aluminum, too, so she'd bling.

    Frame turned out pretty good:

And so did the bike. Side View:

    Other side (with peg):

The bike rides fun as shit. I ended up using my old chainring so my ratio is 38:18, a little high but not bad judging by the 20-minute street ride I went on last night. I think DJing will be fine. With the steep head tube it rides waaay tigher than my Yeti, but I think I'll get used to it again.

The only bad thing about this whole project is that I can no longer be that old dude on that weird beat bike. I'm gonna have to ride this shiny bling machine and ride it hard. And frankly, I don't know if my pooner will let me.

But I say, fuck my pooner. Who wants to go to I-street? The U? Downtown?

What did you look under to find the sand blasting/powder coating? I've got an old Worksman cruiser that needs it's frame redone.

Thanks for the props everyone. I'm kinda dissapointed we're getting more snow -- I wanna ride!

Slim, I looked under "Powder Coating" for my city on http://yp.superpages.com.

Skiingbear, Jim at Pilkington did it: http://www.pilkingtonmetalfinishing.com. He may charge a bit more for road/mountain bikes, especially if you want to do a fork, too. But all the other places I called wanted $150 and up, so still a deal.

I can't believe you wrote that. My eyes are burning!

I just sat up from rolling under my desk and screaming from the pain.

You know you can ride I-street and it can still snow, and you can be happy. And more to the point, I can be happy cuz you'll be riding your baby blue bike and not scraping all the pow off my lines.

Have you taken it off any sweet jumps?

I bet you can get, like..... three feet of air some time. I, on the other hand, have to go practice my dance moves.
    Believe.
