Very happy that the three BC skiers missing overnight made it out. From talking w/SAR, sounds like they were very well prepared. They skinned up the west side Sat. and got disoriented in a ground blizzard above TL. Then mistakenly headed W into Big Vasquez instead of NE into the current drainage. Built a fire, spent the night. First light they skinned back out Big Vasquez an out Current. None has any serious medical problems (all 3rd hand info from SAR).
A very scary situation. I had a pit in my stomach all day after talking to the missing's parent at 7:30am just as FS law man was rolling on the scene. I, along with many others, volunteered to assist with the search but GCSAR had many bodies so I helped in an informal manner.
Don't fool yourself. This could happen to anyone of use. Without each other, preparedness and sound decision making are of little value.
Please do not second guess the competance of those involved, be thankfull that ever one is well and learn from any lessons that may surface.

That's a scary situation indeed, thankfully everyone is OK. So they basically just kept skinning west and passing Russell peak on the north hand side, then dropping into big vasquez which I assume is an east facing bowl that would not take you back down to road? Is that right?
