The selection of miscellaneous hardware at Truckee Mountain Hardware (Ace). In the little drawers above the standard stuff. In little drawers in a carousel. In little bins all over the place. I was fixing a rolling pin for a woman at Truckee's fixit night--the kind that spins on handles and it was missing the plastic insert the steel rod goes through. Another guy went across the street to Ace and found the exact one. The only problem is knowing the names of stuff to ask the otherwise very helpful staff. Who knew the metal fitting you use to swage wire cable is a compression ferrule. We found it anyway. I've never been skunked at Mountain Hardware. I did see a woman get skunked once--looking for a menorah for Hannukah.

I think about 80% of my visits to Ace are for that isle.

I never ask for help at Ace unless I can't find it myself after a thorough search. That's the way you find out about the great stuff you never knew existed or never dreamed Ace carried.

The ace aisle with plumbing parts is as great as the misc hardware aisle. Besides all the fitting, the o-rings, and other items I can usually find what I need. Last time I was at my local ace, they were redoing the store and changing the aisle layout. Next visit will be an exploration and should be fun. I survived when they moved from their old building to a new building next door and I’ll make it through them turning the aisles [emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji6[emoji640][emoji637]]][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]]] degrees and moving things around.
