<<Big lines and big speeds require big stiff boards>>

given the huge number of Spats being used all around Tahoe, and having skied them myself, I'd say they do fine skiing big lines and big speeds

that said, super stiff skis like the Squad are perfect for Alaska straightlines, but straightlining all day becomes either dangerous or boring if that's all you do and why give up the g-force of turns in powder, the best conditions to turn in anyway

Squad's seem great for ski movies.....put them on for one or two straightline runs in Alaska and then switch to something less stiff for actual turns

skiing without turns? now we're headed back in the direction of the cavemen

because some people like stiff skis and some people know how to flex them and some people know how to turn them and some people even amazingly like skiing them in powdoor, duh. Soft skis are not the end all be all of pow performance. They are really great though for getting the gapers out in the pow.

We won't even talk about variable "other" conditions. Just because you can't handle them doesn't mean there aren't people who can. And your SUV "analogy" is totally false.

Hell, I'm not even a rossi fan.

I just bought Mantras...is that a stiff ski

there's stiff and then there's "25% stiffer than an Exploder" stiff ... aka the Squad

I'm not knocking stiff skis, I'm knocking skis soooooo stiff that you need steroids to ski them for more than a morning

just because they're too much for you doesn't mean they're too much. You simply don't have to buy them.

says the guy that pussed out of skiing 195cm 235RA FaGS with alpine binders and thinks 190 Exploders are too stiff.
Putting the "core" in corporate, one turn at a time.

not that it really matters, but i feel like squawman has an overwhelming desire to become a part of the crew on this board and to constantly express how core he is. not that I consider myself part of it, but its enjoyable/funny to watch.

no, I think it's funny when little people (like the 5'3 guy who posted) are telling us that we HAVE to ski huge super stiff skis to be "core"

I'm big enough to ski on almost anything but there's a limit to what's fun and what's just dick waving

when I first started posting here I took every comment personally, now I have been here long enough to see that most of it is just ribbing

    so I'm ribbing back occasionally

    go with the flow

    Me likey!!

Some topics never go out of style. Near the top of the list is the tiny redneck accountant's facination with big skis and even bigger trucks. FYI however, the Lemon does tear the mountain a new one and he does know what he's talking about.

I find it fascinating that we don't see super-sized snowboards like we see supersized skis

Rune, that's a midget standing next to it

I still don't see the top snowboarders riding gigantic boards, at least not yet

It that's your definition of "fascinating" you need to get out more. I haven't snowboarded in a few years so I'll let others be the experts but, Lib Tech made a board with 2 skis painted on this that was 190ish, the Winterstick Swallows are pretty huge, and I know plenty of people that ride 170cm plus board so I'm not real sure that about your statement.

    You,Sir, Are a stupid cunt.

Mr. Jarkko Henttonen rode this 211cm swallowtail in VerbierExtreme couple years ago. And he is certainly not the onlyone riding long boards.

    So shut the fuck up.

The "little Person" here (talk about personal comments)

I dont think i ever mentioned core or that you had to have these skis to be so. If you dont enjoy skiing fast through crappy snow that on softer skis require carefull planning to avoid death cookies and other obstacles than you can stick to your spatulas and soft snow. The squads arent just for big lines and straightlines, once you spend some time on them they actually turn quite well just not quick turns, no need to turn quick though when you can just blow through anything but a tree that you might run into.
If things seem in control, Your just not going fast enough.

size has something to do with how big/stiff a ski you ski, but not everything. Vin skis the stiffie bro, I ski the soft, and I've probably got 30 lbs on him (and I'm not even big). My JO racerkid friend skis hardcore race-stock, and he's maybe 140 lbs and 5'9". It's all about knowing how to ski em.
