On saturday it was still dark at 8am while we were loading saws/fuel/gear and it would have been nice to see without a headlamp

The ski areas will still have the same hours, it's not like most ski areas stay open later in March, April and May when it starts to get lighter in the evening. It sounds like what you really want is a ski area that has hours from 10 to 5:30 instead of 9 to 4:30.

The snow is almost always better in the morning, inbounds or touring, a little more light on the front end is a good thing.

For a couple years Telluride would shift from 9-4 to 10-5 with DST. It made to coral reef shitty stuff a little more tolerable with an hour more of warming.

the local hill tried later openning last year and I don't know if it was that succesful, it kind of makes the hill out of sync with the rest of the town where kids and spouses and real life are going on so customers & employees are less likely to hang around cuz its already late enough and the hill is only 20min from town so you don't need to get up very early to go skiing.

They are going to do some late opennings at very end of season when it would be good to let frozen piste soften

My dogs think it's time to go out, which it is, but they gotta wait an hour now. Both of em are growling and pawing at me like I'm slacking off.

Extra hour to get early turns. Xtra hour to get turns in after morning tours. My days are often limited by the morning.

Horses were all giving me the "WTF?" look pawing and pacing at their gates to come into the barn. Nevermind that it was a beautiful sunny Fall day - their internal clocks told them it was time.

Getting an "extra" hour is because we go to standard time not DST, so are you really in favor of DST? I assume you're talking about having more light in the morning for dawn patrol?

I had to sit around work for an extra hour this morning waiting for day shift to get here. In the spring we will be changing shifts on the fly, with no time in between for turnover or to fuel up equipment. Fuck DST.

This does not seem to be a product that is available. Anyone know of one, or else who wants to do a kickstarter with me?

(plenty of "sunrise alarms" out there but they don't work this way)
I'm telling you, this is a product that would sell. GPS so it knows where it is. The ability to choose wakeup sounds. You set the alarm time in relation to sunrise (or opt out if you have to gt up at a specific time one day).

Very holistic and new age. Wake up at sunrise to the sound of windchimes, or pigs fucking, or whatever you want.

We install some basic timers, which account for changing sunrise and sunset times. They are called "astronomic time clocks", and they work great if you want your exterior lights to come on a certain time after sunset. You enter in your timezone and latitude and the clock figures it out. I'd bet you can get a clock with similar functions.

My dad collected antique clocks. At one point every room had at least two. All ticking away every moment of your life.

I on the other hand have zero clocks with the exception of those that are attached to appliances.

Life passes too quickly as it is without the constant reminder of a mechanical hourglass.

That's a nice romantic thought but even I, a retired person who runs a farm, need to know what time it is if I'm to interact with other people and businesses. The key is to let it be on your schedule.

Love the sound of quality old clocks ticking. My great uncle collected them too - his house was a symphony of ticks and tocks.

X2 I would prefer having longer light in the afternoon/evening. I can drive to work in the morning in the dark just fine. Having the extra hour of daylight after work is gold. I can ride/run/golf in the summer and would lose that, to a large extent, if we shifted everything back to 'standard time' year round. If a change is made, save the light for times when we can use it the most, later in the day.

Seriously, if the complaint against DST is having to spend a few minutes twice a year to change clocks, get an atomic clock, use your cell phone, and/or get rid of the old technology clocks. This is a first-world problem complaint if ever there was one.
