    EC Damage Report

How do things look wherever you were? Jay is definitely suffering. Amazing what a few days of rain can do - last week we were still finding a few powder stashes, yesterday it was all goop.

Lifline is showing frequent barespots, but is positively buried in snow compared to Powerline. No real surprise there I suppose as it's always the first to go (Powerline that is).

Glades were pretty manky and skiing was often done over fallen branches and twigs. Spring thaw = ugly snow. Occasionally a deep section of heavy glop would suck you in and much strength was needed to pop out of these ruts. Big skis were handy to stay smooth and on top.

On the plus side, weather was not nearly as bad as anticipated. A few sprinkles here and there, but no real rain (until we retired to the lodge - then it came down in a few hard spurts). Much fog and atmosphere though. When it lifted in the afternoon, the face and ridge were revealed to be very lacking in coverage. Lines we skied last week no longer exist.

In any case, as with any day on skis, a good time was had. No stress for first tracks, no crowds to compete with, no maturity to hold us back. Good times. Only complaint was the unease I felt due to Mit's repeated comments of how good I looked in my spring jacket.

Sick and ashamed and happy (and owned and boned),

It was a total and complete inundation at Killington on Saturday. It was like skiing blind between the whipping wind/rain/hail! But we still had a great time and Blackhaus/Jager helped to ease the pain & keep us warm. Lots of people partying, eating, listening to the music and watching the mogul challenge at Bear Mountain regardless.

On Sunday it cleared up and the damage was not too bad. We skiied around all over the place and the Canyon was nice, superstar was lovely and terrain parks at Ram's head were fine. I popped into the woods a few times, and conditions are funky as Gin explained. We too had lots of debris in there. Plus the snow was "collapsing" like a giant snow-cone. I fell in one tight area and when I tried to get up sunk down about 8 inches. It was no easy task extricating from that. But it was not crunchy or icy at all.

With the base we have from the past 2 storms I'd say skiing thru April in Central-to-Northern Vermont will be very nice. Also, I hear there may even be a little more snow coming early this month (hopefully not just empty rumors). I think Killington was supposed to get 3 inches last night. Not sure if they did, but when we left it was still drizzling liquid precip...

Jay's forecasting 3-6" at the base and 6-12" at the summit. I'm sure its over-stated jibber jabber but one can sure hope otherwise.

I'm just not used to the wet snow pockets in the trees that are swallowing my poles up a couple of feet, thus inducing the leanandfumble turn technique. Had to throw the powder baskets back on. Grass gaps are fun though.

Had many of those myself. Very disconcerting.

Throw in some bare rock and the fun really begins.

Me (as Mit and I scope out a choked out River Quai): There's plenty of room on the right side.
Me (after we both fumble our way down): Okay, "plenty" was an exaggeration.

Sick and ashamed and happy (but there was some room),

Yeah the bigger skis helped. Once you got into the grove and managed long soft transitions it was a lot of fun in the trees it felt kinda like waterskiing. However, where it was bumped up that we got owned..over and over and over again..sigh .

I also found out about a potential fatal hazard with the shorter tele skis ( I just went down to 176's) in heavy grabby snow - Sudden stop followed by faceplant followed by the gonads slamming into a 117 mm rounded tip..ugh.

I'm not used to you looking average. I was stunned and impressed that it was possible

Wohoo! Average!! Time to strut around the deck and dazzle the females with my mediocrity.

Damage report: Liver incurred a serious hit. It's shuddering at the thought of another rainy weekend and/or the end of the ski season.

First weekend I haven't been out since february. I think I made the right choice to be honest. I did go last wednesday though and Sugarloaf was getting very bare off trail, but there's plenty of snow after that first shot of rain.

I've been staying quiet because it dumped 58" on Mansfield, and I wanted it all to myself.

No, I drank the weekend nights away. I'm sure theres still snow up there, and it's probably a wintry precipitation mix up there. I think I'll go to a tanning saloon this afternoon.
