Why not just tell the dude to drive 40 minutes to KW, where he can ski? Bishop? Really? Is there even any snow down there right now?

KW still has plenty open and decent coverage. Oh, and groomers too. Just like Mammy. Just a hell of a lot closer. Sure, it is a shitty year, but not so shitty that drinking at a dive bar in Bishop sounds fun.

I'd argue 395 is one of the most scenic stretches of highway in the US and worth the trip. A hotel room in Bishop is cheap this time of year. Hit the photo galleries, open trailheads for hiking, a hot spring or two, and there is a new pub in Bishop too, Mountain Rambler. If you're a climber, this trip is a no-brainer. The east side Sierra peaks are eye-popping. Even if you just enjoy cool mountain scenery, it's a good way to spend a couple days. If you've never been, you'll have no idea you are still in California.

Disclaimer: I'm deeply entrenched in the "groomers just suck" camp. If your crew enjoys groomers and wants to ski, Kirkwood is probably the best bet.

    Hey Tahoe!!!!

Glad to see that the butthurt is in full force for the fourth season in a row.

You guys were all dicks to me in this thread last year when I asked for some advice about a trip I had planned out there.

    Suck it.

    Love colorado.

PS, most resorts out here have seen about 200 inches of snow so far this season, with 20 inches in the past week in most spots.

yeah, but his post mentioned they were looking for snow...

and the groomer part was tongue in cheek, as mammy groomers were offered up as an option. Plenty of off piste available at the wood these days. Especially with all the warmth we have. Fuck, I was skiing the frozen shit around new years, and that still skied decently. 50+ forecast at 8k, and there will be plenty of soft serve up for options.

Not gonna argue that 395 is not spectacular. It is. But he asked about snow. If we wanted to climb, then Bishop sounds like a good idea.

Now, if they have touring gear, I'd still suggest near KW.

And don't get me wrong. I'm not driving to the Sierra to ski these days. Surf is just too damn good. Tomorrow is a 30" powder day.

Here's the thread. I don't see where anyone was a dick. People gave honest advice in a nondickish manner. WTF is dat responded seemingly nonsarcastically as follows:

thank you everybody for the beta / advice
I think WTF is dat is bored and trolling.

And at Squaw. And at Alpine. And at Sugarbowl.
Hell they even had some tree shots at NoStars off East Ridge.
I mean, ok yes you are gonna be Billy-Goating around, but you'd really rather go driving??? WTF??!!
Jeebus, just look at the Webcams. Can you see snow? Ok then.
    Read the lift/trail report.
    Is anything open? Ok then.

Cinders & me will be scraping around Alpine on Sat & Squaw on Sun.
Holla if you know our steeze, m'kay

True, but I read desperation and hopelessness. I don't do groomers so for me windshield time scoping future lines in HUGE peaks is never a bad time

I'm officially self censoring myself from open snow and powdiction until it dumps and only looking at Noaa spot forecasts as those only go a few days out.

Not a bad idea. CFSv2 still looks ok. But then, it's been wrong so far this winter.

A few hours of driving nets you this...

Super saddened today by the loss of a tahoe legend, American Dave. He was one of the most passionate people who was truly living his dreams. As I'm getting ready to leave Tahoe for Cham where 3 amazing souls that I saw everyday on the tram and at the cafe are now going to be missing I'm starting to feel worried about how much we risk to live the life we love.

There's this too. A little closer to Tahoe/Reno. Shot from Tuesday
