Just bustin your chops, drinking Utah 4% right now and closing it down at Alta.
See you all on the Shasta side of things, or next season!

Yeah Jeff!!!! But I gotta admit I had the exact same thought as Alex re goose islandBut needing the plastic ring does narrow the field quite a bit. Was thinking yer bike would work well approaching deso from the backside
Yeah I had always heard good things about Goose Island but only bought it once. No Hop Ottin'?
Either way nice job. Ever make it out to the sisters loop?
powdork.com - new and improved, with 20% more dork.
No since I could not round up a partner, I figured since I'd be heading out solo I'd just do the boat thing again as there were more lines I wanted to hit out there.
Toby, I've done some riding out of Wrights lake before, it's very cool and pretty technical riding even on the jeep trail. Not that big of a fan of riding that kind of stuff with skis, etc on my back (Although I've never been up that trail to Lyons Lake 16e13 or what may be a fireroad Upper Forni have you?). Plus it takes over an hour of driving from what I remember to even get up there, where as I can be at Echo in 15 minutes and I find paddling a really pleasant way to get in and out of there and right now you can hit snow pretty quickly. Maybe things up high will get refreshed this week, now you have me thinking about accessing Pyramid from over there![]()

Rosa closing day (Rosing Day?) was pretty solid.
Spent the bulk of it poking around the frontside with Corky.
Had a rare non-AM sighting of Gone2Alpine.
snow was crisp in the morning, but apres lunch it was pretty soft and neo-corn-like.
good skiing amongst the trees between "The Face" and off of "Jetta".
Traditional last run with snowball fighting and Ski Patrol escort was in effect.
Nice apres parking lot scene, as well.
"The Chutes" should be bueno this coming week, too.
I don't have many days to fit in the schedule but Moon/sisters loop is definitely on my agenda as per usual. I'm eyeing Woods Lake parking lot to be open but I'm not expecting the government to open it earlyI'll be going mid week in the next couple of weeks if anyone is game.
Get a mesh bag.
I didn't believe in reincarnation when I was your age either.
did a few laps on ralston a couple days ago. was pretty good! easy trail hike to Tamarack? or Ralston? lake at the base of the mountain. it's kind of perfect right now how you can hike all the way to the base of the peak in tennis shoes, on easy trail.
Did crescent, both sisters plus that pinner chute in the cirque lookers right of round top a few days ago. That was a fun day! If theres any ice climbers out there, the little sliver chutes in that cirque have nice alpine ice in them. Best run of the day was through the techy slopes down to winnemucca lake though.
logged 3 laps on a moderately pitched, east-facing knoll off of Hwy 431 this afternoon.
started skinning from the Tahoe Meadows Trailhead around 1:36.
hit the slope 20-minutes later.
snow was sweet corn.
was back at the truck by 3:16.
nice little roadside quickie.
Season summarized
I didn't get well enough motivated until a little after 2 pm. By that time, given that a thunderstorm was on the horizon, I decided to hit up a line I'd been looking at from west-bound 80 up on Donner Summit. I drove up over the summit from Truckee, turned around at Boreal, and eventually parked at the east-bound Donner Summit Safety Roadside Rest Area in the very last, eastern-most parking spot, geared up, and headed out on what I assume is the PCT (there was a definite trail and metal markers, but no signs).
Started hiking at 2:55 and got to skiable snow by 3:15. The line, which had looked pretty solid from afar, turned out to be pock-marked with big boulders and not terribly skiable. I found a second line that afforded 5 turns before shelving out into a sharp rollover and a bottom half that was littererd with boulders. I opted to play it safe and banged out 3 laps of 5 turns each on the upper portion. I was afforded some semi-rotten corn for my efforts along with an intermittantly post-holed bootpack.
I was back at the Taco Mama by 3:57.
Ended up beating the storm and didn't get arrested (there are several prominant "No Snowplay" signs threatening prosecution of violators posted throughout the rest area, but I figured it didn't mention skiing, plus I was outside the rest area on USFS land).
Sorry, no pix as I'm still awaiting delivery of my memory card via the USPS. But there is still skiable, albeit full-on patch-skiing, snow up around the Summit area, as well as up on the Pass ("Poop Shoot" is shat, but the Drive-In Movie Theater line up on Judah is still holding, plus there's some stuff lurking around Castle Peak).
Anyone been out around CP this week? How's it holding up? I assume you have to approach with skis on your back? Curious what kind of base we'll have beneath this little storm coming in later.
I'm kinda waiting for Woods Lake parking to open for easier access. Otherwise, I'm planning on Sonora on Monday or Tuesday (roads permitting) and Mammoth with the kiddos on May 2-3.
^^ What do you mean? That was my mid-winter edit.
Hit up Rose with Corky late this afternoon/early this evening.
We hiked in from the summit and skied "Northwest" first.
There were some fresh turns already laid out, but we skied around 'em best we could in the bonafide, fresh sierra cement/sludge.
Second helpings saw us skiing "Ramsey's" and making first post-closing turns on that run. Snow this time around was breakable crust.
The runout back to the parking lot was like a super speed slush luge run: we got locked in our tracks and you just had to straightline until the terrain slowed you down.
There was between 4" and 6" of fresh, which was cool.
Since then it's been snowing lightly, but steadily here in Truckee for about the past 2 hours. It's dropped to 32 at my abode and the snow is sticking. Will be interesting to see what tomorrow holds.
As usual it seems the Sugar Bowl Picnic tables will be the place to ski today
