thx for all the updates. Wish I still had a kW pass to hit that zone up.

Is there enough snow in hope valley to tour up to Stevens or red lake?

Turns out my ass is bruised, but nothing is broken. You'd think after a day sitting on the couch, I'd have a few pics to share, but I really needed to watch too many shitty movies.

If you leave the base early, you can climb Caples Crest, watch the sunrise, hang in the trees as staff arrives, then catch chair 4 as it opens.

It would be nice if VR ever bothered to open their rope tows. But that would cost them money, so...

I've never done it. I've only ever started from Carson Pass and finished from the lines off the east buttress so that kind of takes the road out of play. My guess would be no.

This past Saturday you could drive about 1/2 of a mile up the road to Crater Lake from Hwy 88 with a few small patches of snow that went with a 4x4.

From where we parked it was mostly snow on the road, with about 6 short patches that lacked snow. But coverage was very thin in quite a few places and melting rapidly. We were able to ski most of the road from where we parked, save for those 5-6 short patches that you had to walk over. Plenty of rocks to dodge.

The rest of the terrain from Hope Valley is completely dry getting to the N side of Stevens for instance would be a real chore.

Finally have some stoke to share this winter. Had some fun days out exploring with buckyb and claymond. Initially was just hoping for some decent corn, but there is still quite a bit of powder out there to be claimed.

buckyb finding some winter goodness along the shade line.

d was please with the turns in the sun.

We even found a few small hits down below

Next day Claymond and I headed straight out to the goods.

More pics and words and me talking about being a dumb ass and falling at the blog.

Added a corn run to the bottom first. I think the pow is pretty much baked by now, yesterday was getting funky past the first couple turns. Good to hear you didn't get too damaged.

Things are getting real thin on castle peak. Still some continuous patches from the top though - and corn today was real good.

I was the first one down, luckily it transitioned back into firmer snow so both myself and the rider above rode it out no problem. At the altitude we were at combined with rapidly warming temps we struggled a bit to find good consolidated lines that we could ride. Later in the day we went back and did this one again, I went first again but left a much bigger rut which made it a bit more difficult for the two riders that followed, well lets just say hilarity did ensue

Here I am riding it out, Photo credit: First Track Productions

That's one line I never hoped nor expected to read in this thread. ;-)

    Nice pics, though.
