Looking for some Squaw knowledge from the collective. Exiting the Emigrant lift, is there simply a boot-pack up to these entrances above Shirley? I always cut beneath and head for the Funnel and haven't paid as close attention as I should. Squallywood just refers to this zone above the Shirley Chutes as "The Roof" and on the lower part "The Cellar" on looker's left (probably not ski-able in my picture below from earlier this week), but doesn't really provide any details beyond that. Anyone ever skied it? (just curious - too much exposure for me)

I've only seen it skied a couple of times. It's permanent closure afaik. I've never seen it open in 20 years, just poached a few times during epic years. One if these days...

I think it got skied recently by a scruffy skittle.
I didn't believe in reincarnation when I was your age either.

    ^^^ Yes. Or two.
Weds was the 1st time We've seen it open. Thought it was Attic?
I believe the big section between there & Funnel is permanently closed.
(Get off Emigrant go ahead towards Granite make a right towards edge) hella rocky traverse!
    So stoked to hit it...
...but thereby hangs a tale involving "Gator Ice", & getting a bit stuck & "puckered" against a rock wall with just my tips & tails touching the ice, trying to back up to the snow and not slide...
....thank you kind Squaw Dude in Black Uniform on Chams who came over & braced my ski with his poles until I could stand up...
    Phew!
I chose a bad place to drop in.
    Cinders did better.
It was lovely the second time

NOT the red lines in your pic. We skied the far lookers right, by that "fin" of rock

Considering some of the other stuff that's open inbounds I guess I'm a little surprised that the red lines in my picture are closed. I suppose the looker's left line could kick off a slide right into the heart of Shirley Bowl, though... not to mention the massive exposure.

Duh. I should have realized that, since there were already some serious cracks in the cornices when I was up there on Tuesday.

People climbing Roadcut today, the day after the rockfall cleared (and yesterday afternoon for all I know). Kind of a cheesy way to claim a first ascent, or just the spirit of adventure?

Went up above Crater lake with whatsupdoc. north facing was soft where the wind hadn't scoured to the rain crust. May head back up for a corn run tomorrow down the east facing

It was a beautiful day today at lower sardine lake. The winter conditions there are downright depressing

The story I always heard was that a tourist (MD) had a sliding fall that took him over the cliffs below your looker left line. He died in the fall and the run has been closed since. Not a rational decision.

Little bit of everything out on the n side of cp including slide for your life unedgable ice. Last Monday and teus were best days of the year on the s side of the pass but it's been getting hammered all week doing it's best impression or Oregon. Southerly exposures have made a quick transition to great corn thanx to the wind event last Monday pm firming up the pack. The pow is still there but minimal thanx to the springlike temps but still lots of great wintry snow on the northerly.
Was surprised how well heavenly fared from that last storm and after looking at northerly Mott I'd say the side country off monument could be good. A ski school guy overheard me talking bout poaching Mott w gear and he warned me of patrol warning them of the sketchiness of the snow pack in ther. Everything I have seen and heard of indicates a bomber pack so I suspect the heavenly trollers are just telling employees that to keepem outta ther

    Ottime is correct.

Skied some pretty damn good corn and some pretty damn good pow on the same day Friday. Despite the temps the snow remained soft in the shade. Sunny aspects were supportable for the most part.

Corn should be good this week. Too bad the coverage is so shitty.

    Some pics from Friday:

Surprisingly good conditions in North Lake BC today. Sweet corn on the south aspects and boot deep pow on the north aspects. Was expecting much worse.

More snow please. A few decent turns on N facing terrain and great soft serve on South aspects. Just a few rocks to scramble over.

I'll be around KW next few days. If anyone is looking to play, I'd like to hit that backside court nailed, maybe play around the tits and ak face. Or any o the other fun zones. PM me if you are interested. I'll be wearing pants, a coat and a helmet.

Shorts might be better, but, still, something is recommended.

Looking for some Tahoe beta. Work is taking me to Minden next week, but I'm flying out a day early to hopefully get some turns in on Sunday. Are conditions still looking pretty bleak? I was thinking of trying to hit Kirkwood, but open to recommendations, particularly if there are any deals to be had or crowds to avoid. I'll be staying in Carson City for work, but could get a place closer to the mountain for Saturday night if it made sense and was somewhat affordable. Would certainly love any recommendations for things to do, eat or drink while I'm out there as well.

Edit: oh yeah, I'm going to have to rent - wont be able to bring my bros for this trip. Any recommendations on a mag-approved shop?
