Had to make a trip to Reno today. So before I left I killed some time by driving up too the top of the world over by North Benjamin. A quick look West towards the desolation fire, King fire and the weather front.

Headed to Reno after that. Nice and windy with temperatures around 70 at the bottom of 431 near 395. @ the top of 431 @ 4pm it was 42 degrees. Windy as hell too. So I decided to take the long way home and go home via the West shore. Huge sets and plenty of people out on the water trying to take advantage of some surf

Saw a jetski that had taken on some water and was in bad shape in kings beach as well as this guy who is going to find out that BOAT does not stand for break out another thousand but it does stand for break out another TEN THOUSAND.

Then in search of cold temperatures I drove up Blackwood canyon to get this

Back on topic, BA's post from a few hours ago is fun. It's getting closer.

    Up above Incline too!

    Edit:
No idea what happened, was there earlier and then the pic I uploaded just showed blank in the vB_Editor_001_editor.
Did it again, see how long it lasts this time.

powpig's photo isn't showing up on the laptop browser either. powpig, maybe just post the link? Would love to see that photo and have it entered into this historic thread.

You talkin about those clawless Mexican freaks. Barely deserve to be called a craw daddy.

Cold packed with seaweed direct from dock is okay. I had some years ago my buddy shipped out. Still not the same, IMO. Less sweet for sure. But maybe it was just because they were late season hard shells. Early season softies is the only way to go. The rest is just second rate.

A lot has been going on in this thread. Holy shit, there is snow!

The crest is looking pretty white from down here at Donner Lake. If anyone was thinking of going into the ski repair business this might be the time.

Observations from this morning's drive between north lake and Carson valley.

Looking across the lake, Blackwood and Alpine appear to be plastered.

    Snow half way down Jake's

Snow to bottom of jaws. Heavenly runs looked almost good to go.

Are all the alpine meadows webcams down, or did they change to a Squaw URL? Can't see anything on them.

Also, it's what I'm seeing on the other cams true? No snow left anywhere except a small dusting at high camp. After hearing of several inches in the parking lot at alpine yesterday, and having to work all day so not being able to check it out until today, to have it all gone is a little depressing

It's september and it's California--a week ago it was still summer. What were you expecting?

Yeah, and it will be summer again next week. Last year we had the same type of storm...just a week earlier, the day before the Ironman. Lets not forget how that winter turned out.

Damn, Flex! You took the words right outta my dome. I just didn't wanna drop that seemingly overlooked factoid in the thread and get flamed for being a Daniel Downer and harshing everyone's snow jones fantasies...

That said, who got turns in?

I scoped out both AM and Donner Pass last evening around 6. There wasn't much that looked skiable, except for maybe the very top of Lincoln @ SB. Castle Peak was holding at that time, but again, nothing looked that skiable.

Have heard that Rose is getting some dusting today...

Tried to go up heavy gondola with the FAM but it was closed due to power outage and snow. Guy at the bottom said a foot+ up top above 9000.
