Anyone want to explore the Kirkwood backside backcountry tomorrow? I'm thinking the few inches may be just enough to make me happy. That and my office is being moved tomorrow so I might as well go skiing...

Question Discount Tix for SugarBowl?? For Thursday?

It is nice to see a refresh on the cams. Even just a leedle bit lifts the Spirits!

Cinders & I have a ride to SugarBowl on Thursday. Yip, yip!
Wonder if any of you Mags might know of a way to get some Discount on the Lift-Tix there?
All I got is Buy Online day before for $80...(walk up is $95).

Yes, I got the email where they were offering $50 tix for Superbowl weekend. (Is that this weekend?)
But I'll be at Squaw on Saturday. Cheering on Young Owen Telemike.

Hey, saw a FatBike in Oakland this am, going along Embarcadero.
(They have FatBikes for hire at Royal Gorge now, btw)
Man, it looked like hard work peddling that thing. Tried to engage the rider in banter, but he was "focused" (and going other way).
    Wozzit any of youse guys??

Race is upper mountain. You can ski with us for $54 race family.
I didn't believe in reincarnation when I was your age either.

Yes that was #1 post kid... And a sweet one it was. Had to get the skills right before the first snow hits. A lean year, but I'll be back

MTB is very good down here at the moment too.

Good question on location. I don't know any good spots for it, but imagine that the more private the land, the better. I would ask my coworker with the big SLT house but I work for the USEPA and burning things is something we are not comfy with.

As for this weekend. My friends are coming up, so resorts are in the works. I will be spending Friday at Heavenly, because it is close and I never go there. Saturday and Sunday at Kwood. They let me do my thing so if anyone wants to hit the slack and back, let me know. I will bring my BC gear in the car and if there is a big enough group, maybe the grill for some brawts and grilled veggies for après.
Someone once told me that I ski like a Scandinavian angel.

Well...I did ski some cold smoke today at Kirkwood in Thunder Saddle/Vista, right of Olympic and of course in Chamoix/Oops n Poops. I skied Broadway in West Shore. Definitely no-fall safety steep skiing, but it at least has coverage and gets your blood pumping. Everything around it though looked horrendous.

Eveything else was...eh...fluff on top of glacier ice. The snowpack below really froze hard. The East winds were kicking most of the morning and scoured West Shore area and most of any corniced-lined zones around the mountain. Protected areas were definitely the best call. They did manage to pop Chair 10 after being closed since XMAS? The drop in off the cat track is stupidly frozen...like death ice moguls under a few inches of fluff. I can see why it was closed. The ridge to Waterfall after traversing toward 'All the Way' was pretty good because the East wind deposits and protection from the trees. Waterfall zone, however, was utter shitballs. Even when untracked, I took a big turns and it was into slide city because of the ice...it took me over rocks etc with no way to really stop. Groomers should be decent for a while.

Overall, I had a blast...maybe not my shins...but I did score some out of blue ripping pow turns that definitely made my day.

    Peak 9795...

    Hello steep chute...

Some dust on crust fun in the sun in Thunder Saddle...

Great to see the stoke again, I did take a couple runs at KW but found the conditions a little challenging, what Skier666 is doing is insane, I wish i could do it.

Nice skiing at Lassen, is that the old ski area in the video or is that further toward Brokeoff?

^ Definitely. Had a blast today at Alpine... the groomers were fast and had some wintery snow to get your edge hold on... Skiing ain't terrible right now. Convincing my Bay Area friends to get up and use the passes they bought has been a bit of a struggle.

Did a short hike yesterday over in the Rose area, didn't have a lot of time but was able to make some decent turns on a few inches of real snow.

^^ yes it was. Nancy's was fun. East Face was just ok.
Vanderbilt was better than expected. That cornice face off Lincoln was open.
    Ghost Town.
Worst case scenario was sticky new on top of Coral-reef but most was better.
Bit of rain/hail at end of day & a killa Rainbow!
(Lots of stuff groomed & it was fine...goes without saying)

Mainline Pocket was open today. I saw a few people hit it. I'm strictly a spectator for stuff like that.

Anybody know a way to get precip products from the euro model? Or does BA actually shell out for those?
