The Vailwood site says you should arrive 2 hours prior to your lesson. Anyway.

Marshall T, I would check KW FB page before planning to drive up there. Unless the storm parts, I doubt they will have the top open. Maybe 11. Currently it is pretty limited terrain off of 5, and even when fully open, 5 gets pretty boring after a few hours.

If we do get hit Thurs, an the storm breaks, and 6 opens, then it would be a good call.

Getting up to SLT on Thursday might kind of looks like a bitch right now. Storm is supposed to e strongest from Thur eve until Fri morn.

OTOH, I doubt 80 will be much of a ski shit show until later in the day Friday. I doubt westbound will be bad before Sunday.

Fingers crossed for this storm. It could be just what we need to get things Rollin.

Dear Toyota and Squaw Valley: Do you somehow think that making me ride in a funitel car that you can't see out of because of your ad covering the windows will somehow make me more likely to buy a Toyota? If so I regret to inform you that you are mistaken.
Dear Oakley and Squaw Valley: Don't you think it's somewhat ironic that you advertise vision-aid products by covering the windows of a funitel car? I must congratulate you on your millenial sense of humor.

    No snow at lake level

    Some snow in the valley

    Some mountains

    A peak

    Sweet powdery goodness

    Consolidated ripable snow

    Another mountain

    Skinning and grinning

    The far away pass

From 5000 feet the snowline is far away, hopefully not for long.

We haven't had a storm start with 70mph winds in a while...years...this could be a good sign.

    Or not. Who knows.

As BA's discussion this morning points out, the fact that there's this much disagreement in the models only two days out doesn't bode well. That said, the main disagreement is how far beyond 89 the moisture plume will travel, so it has less impact on me than on those who ski at points East.

The difference between models with the latest update is just ridiculous, even by recent Tahoe standards. Seriously, WTF?

Anyone heading to KW on Friday? I think I am driving up and maybe back on Saturday for more. The witch doctors are predicting the Revenge of Ullr.

When the season gets rolling you should try to find a weekend to come check us out. I'll be off most weekends. You can stay here and we can show you around DR and BV and you can try the kiddie programs. Day to day I prefer DR but we've got nothing like BV's Grizz Bowl and even that pales in comparison to KW goods. Open invite.

I, for one, welcome our new European Model overlords.

I'll be up Saturday, but haven't decided yet whether KW or backcountry in that area (Red Lake or Stevens). I should know by Friday what our plans are.

Definitely rooting for the Euro weather gypsies on this one...

Cool. I think I am going to hit some of the inbounds Kwood Friday and might go out to tour on Saturday morning pretty early.

NWS says forecast of 7 foot waves. It may be hard for some surfer/skiers to choose their activity Thu. Although Wed may be windy enough to surf before the precip starts on Thursday...

7 ft wind lake waves vs snow? I'm, snow. Surf was killing it down here today. More on tap for tomorrow.

I'd be surprised if KW has much open on Friday based on the expected timing of this system. As I imagine Red Lake or Stevens would be pretty stormed in Friday. I suggest looking for some treed lines for Friday if you are headed out. And be sure to read SAC and diagnose. OTOH, I'd expect KW frontside to pop this weekend if things play out as the euro suggest. Even the average gets things going. But they need snow down low. It is all about the egress.

Mike, thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I've spent some time at BV, but never DR. always thought the skis school at BV was well done.

I'd say Friday would definitely be a mellow like Casa de Agua day.

Mammoth was in *slightly* better shape than Squaw last weekend. Amazing how far a little extra elevation can go.

Just a few laps off Chair 12 after they opened it up. Nothing too exciting but a fun start to the season.

Hoping for some inbounds KW friday - though if storm is slow & ops aren't ready powhouse will suffice after checking SAC.

^^^^maybe chair 11. Highly doubt the top will open until the storm passes and they can assess. It will be the first time opening for the season, so they need to build a ramp, mark hazards, set a boundary, an still do avy controls. That is a lot to do in the midst of a raging (as NWS, the biggest in 5 years hype) storm. OTOH, if the storm under delivers and moves out swiftly, and KW has all their shut together, you may be in luck.

With all of this wind I seriously doubt the upper mountain at any of the resorts (except maybe Northstar) will be open before Saturday. Definitely seems like the kind of storm where if you have to choose your spot, wait until it clears and then get the goods. Then again, Saturday is going to be an absolute shit-show just about everywhere with all of the press this storm is getting, so probably better off doing a couple of quick laps and then doing some meadow skipping elsewhere... depending.

Alpine may be able to get their top open as they have had the coverage to do that work for a week. Then again, KSL. So, yeah, you're probably right - Saturday.
