apparently AM skiers would be able to access the lift from the Gondi midstation, boarding at a mid station of Caldwell's lift, so it would seem to require the Gondi to go in first. If not, it might be fun to watch Troy's uber-wealthy try to thrash their way down Estelle. It could get very ugly if Squaw has lifts on money hold while they have people manning Troy's lift for private skiers only. OTOH this could be one more in a long list of lifts promised and never built--just throwing a bone to skiers to quiet opposition to the Village without having to deliver.

I love those big open trees at the southern edge of Estelle.

On a more positive note, looks like Nevada County got $9M + to upgrade Old 40, including bike lanes and full shoulders. Construction not expected until 2019 and not a sure thing because private land involved but I hope it happens. Passing a climbing bicycle in a car is scary on that road. Being passed by a descending bicycle is scary too.

I would imagine that the homes would be built (or lots sold) first. Then that revenue would be used to build the lift. Maybe he's had this idea floating around for a while but it didn't make sense due to the horrid economy. Either way he still hasn't finished his first lift, there hasn't even been mention of it since his partnership with k$l. This doesn't sound like it will happen too soon. Especially since these things haven't done well in the last few years (tamarack, Yellowstone club, the one that was supposed to be built in minturn, etc). I'm not letting this rustle my jimmies just yet.

No doubt I'll be reduced to playing shuffleboard by the time this happens, but I'm worried about you young whippersnappers.

Got my and my sons season passes at squawlpine.
Got the gold ones this year, seems like we found ourselves up there on every one of the blackout dates last year.
    Hoping for a good season!

I wouldn't count on a "horrid" economy to stop this. The markets are up a mile since 2008, Bay Area is back in the money. If anything the economy would drive it.

I'm with J on this one. Gotta love those Tahoe cliffs you could drop safely in a wheelchair.

Yeah. I mean, the code to C&P would be nice.

Some high-elevation snow forecasted for Weds. Seems like the time to me.

according to RF this is a multiple year thread, unless someone else wants to do a new one. See post #1. But I say hold off until shit is open. I'm convinced jumping the gun jinxes the snow.

I'm not sure that it's all private. Troy had maps up at the meetings over Labor Day weekend. I think that up to the proposed gondola midstation is Troy's, but from there to top of Estelle may be USFS. I just don't remember.

As others have pointed out, though, there is still neither cable nor chairs on the existing towers, so I wouldn't consider this imminent.

The impact from the owners of the 38 $3M+ homesites -- which will presumably be occupied less than a month out of the year -- will likely be minimal. The impact from increased access to Estelle is less clear.

IIRC, a lift from the Wolverine Saddle to the top of Estelle was approved a long time ago, back when Powdr still owned Alpine. The economics apparently didn't justify following through and installing it.

Yeah, but since we want someone to be able to edit the initial posts, it might make sense to let a more frequent visitor take this puppy over.

I think we're well past jinxes at this point.

Heh. Yeah, the "anti-jinx" train hasn't been doing shit for years.

Hey! I just got back... Sorta. I won't be back in the Reno area for another 3 weeks but at least I'm in a place I can make some adjustments. Just saying, because I probably won't have a ton of time to make updates.

I support whatever decision is made if someone else wants to carry the torch. Sorry my limited bandwidth is impacting the thread updates.

Is there anything more complicated to it than copy and paste from the quotes? I mean, do you have some special passwords or custom coding? Any other administrative tasks besides setting it up?

I nominate superuser Powdork, but I'd be willing to give it a whirl.

Had a dream I was skiing a couloir last night, maybe sparked by the first reports of snow falling in California this season yesterday.

Here is a video I made doing a Kayak/Ski mission into the Desolation hunting smooth backcountry corn. Nothing rad and excruciatingly long but I made it mostly for me to remember one of the better days I had last season.

New routes on Road Cut (maybe Peanut Gallery too)...

On the bike I find the stretch along the lake much scarier than the pass, particularly summer weekends/holidays.

There are no passwords, and all of the coding is right there so you can use that as a guide for things you like and use that as a guide for things you don't.

I had been limited by character limits before and that is why some of the posts were not updated with additional data. Data could be changed but unless something has changed in the system it would follow nightclub rules:

one character out, one character in

Let me know if I can support, I'll do what I can.
