    That's awesome.

To answer the OP's question, these activities promise the the unadventurous the opportunity to purchase a simulation of adventure- like a roller coaster, only more naturey, and therefore more appealing to yuppies who hold certain types of experiences as status symbols.

Again, South Park had the whole zipline thing covered.

    Whoops, someone posted a clip.

SUPing mostly exists because the recreational boating industry failed.

good luck with that cheap entry $ wise perhaps, but incredibly time intensive. Waiting for the right wind strength & direction to learn, then once you actually get good enough you wait for the wind to be strong enough to be bothered. Do you live on the ocean? If not then don't bother.

Well that's mighty smug of you. Most people don't have the money, free time and/or are locationally challenged to be a hardcore brah like yourself. What's wrong with them experiencing at least a little bit of an adrenaline rush?

Your location says Brooklyn. You must be single, a DINK, or fucking wealthy if you spend most of your time doing adventurous things, because they sure as fuck don't happen within the 5 Boroughs. Who is the yuppy again?

Classic TGR thread. Toss out something lame like ziplining and watch all the livin-the-dream bro-brahs out-brah eachother on how lame ziplining is and how core they are. Surprised no one has mentioned that they only zipline if they can skin to the top.

I'm sure there are some rad ziplines, but I've never done em fwiw, but SUPing can be fun. Would never attempt to reel in a marlin from one, but around here you see tons of guys on the rivers fly fishing for trout on em.

Oh, and whoever was wondering about windsurfing/kitesurfing: windsurfing is still alive on the EC, I see about 10 or so every morning if the wind is good in Hilton Head, although it used to definitely be more. Neighbor bought a kitesurf setup a few years back. I'm pretty sure its still in it's original packaging in his garage. I hear the OBX are sick for that kinda thing though.

^So true... I want to make a zip line with a couple loop the loops...

I still windsurf, but it takes 20-25 knots to get me excited, so not all that often. Kiteboarding is definitely taking over, but I'm not about to buy more shit... to sit in my garage, too. I'd buy a SUP before a kiteboard.

Holy shit. You're saying SUPing is at critical levels in other cities? In minneapolis it's infectious and worrisome

I never said ziplining sucks (although I suspect it does) and I actually think SUP looks quite enjoyable. I merely offered an accurate assessment of why these two activities are currently quite popular. Perhaps "yuppie" was the wrong word. I should have said "middle class white people." It doesn't hurt that they look good on Facebook.

Look up-thread. I went once, in an awesome place. Started on the top of an island mountain and ended up after 15 stages on a beautiful beach with tasty drinks. Some were steep and fast, others long and slow through a canopy filled with Macaws and Iguanas. Some were high off the ground, others barely skimming rocks and cliffs. I went with my Wife and kids, and yes - it was fun as hell.

I also had one in my back yard growing up that we made too steep and my friends and I would absolutely wreck ourselves every time. That lasted about a week until my buddy broke his arm.

You know what else is some good "yuppie" fun? Adventure Parks like this one: http://sandyspringadventurepark.org/

My first kid is coming soon. I recon I better learn to enjoy this sort of thing. One of the reasons my parents got divorced was my father's inability to enjoy family vacations (including skiing). Something else for me to worry about. I hope my boy likes fishing. Cheap fun with no crowds.
