    Permanent Press Cycle

What the fuck is that? I know I've used it but I don't think I really know what the hell it does.

One of those things you have for years and just accept it I guess. Kinda like the door close button on elevators.

I think it's for girly shit. I'm sure a maggette or married mag could possibly tell us.
    No longer stuck.

Or for people who know what a collared shirt is, numbnuts.

BMills, it's generally designed to minimize wrinkles and keep shirts and pants looking pressed so they need less or no ironing.

If someone could make a jacket of those three things it would no doubt be the most popular and prized item in all of your closets.

It's a gentler cycle, but not as gentle as "gentle". There is actually a difference. And you don't have to use it only on permanent press clothes. Unless you wear tightly whities for 2 months before you wash them, most clothes will get clean on the gentler cycles and will last longer.
The close door button, on the other hand, does absolutely nothing. It's not even wired to anything. It was put there to give impatient people the illusion of control, kind of like the way they put fake controls in the Mercury space capsules.

. A functional "door close" button is required by elevator code (ASME A17.1, Requirements 2.27.3.3, "Phase II Emergency In-Car Operation"). For firefighters and rescue personnel to open or close elevator doors during emergency operation, the "door open" and "door close" buttons must be pressed continuously until the door is opened or closed respectively. An elevator with a non-working "door close" button would receive a violation during a routine inspection and test of fire service.

The first part of the wikipedia post:
Despite media reports to the contrary,[1][4] "door close" buttons in elevators are not placebo buttons in the common sense. This myth has been popularized in part because, during automatic (normal) operation of passenger elevators, the "door close" button often has no observable effect.

When you wash your clothes on the gentle or permanent press cycle you are spoiling them rotten. Wash all your clothes on the whites cycle to teach them who's boss.

Well shit. Looks like I may have a new go to wash cycle.

Thanks all, mystery solved and I didn't have to resort to google like some chump who mixes darks and lights in the hot cycle.

Just buy ur wife an iron for her birthday, or anniversary, or Valentine's Day, along with clear direction that she is to use it. Then tell her to bring you a sammich. And a beer. With a cold glass.

    Problem solved.

Someone gave us a crazy complicated/fancy iron for our wedding. That thing has more settings than this thread could help address. I'll try your approach and if that fails, I'll be back with more threads about the iron.

Does it have a ski wax setting?

I've been mixing whites and colors forever with no ill effects. One very important laundry tip--do not machine dry your Hawaiian shirts. Genuine cheap rayon shirts need to be air dried.

Fair question. This thing has about a dozen settings on the main dial and aside from the steam blast and spray buttons on top it has 4 more buttons that have symbols on it that I'm sure are the key to summoning some alien ship in the not too distant future.

I'll let you know how that works out with the wife come ski season.

(either that or I'll just probably fuck up the wax using this thing)
