Not nearly as much as you might think...

If that fish is headed to the Tsukiji Market in Japan, It will be auctioned off and the dude who caught it will get his cut, minus the expenses (first class flight 3/4 of the way across the world and a very nice ice coffin for charlie) It could go for anywhere between $5 and $15 a pound I would guess That's a nice fish, not really that big, not very fat either... The market is flooded right now as now much larger fish were taken recently so this one will won't get anywhere near that $15 per pound figure. Also this was caught on rod and reel, not harpooned. Fighting a fish like a tuna that is warm blooded can cause the fish to actually "cook" itself from the long fight. A fish hit with a harpoon dies pretty much instantly and the meat is much higher quality. The better prices come in the fall when the fish are fat and full of herring and mackeral that that have a higher fat content

You can also sell the fish right at the dock to a local broker and they cut you a check on the spot, generally less than shipping it but you know what price you are getting.

Thats a Penn 130 Internantional Reel. Likely filled with a few hundred yards of 130lb braid as backing with 100lb top section of florocarbon (attached the hook) for abrasion and line stretch.

He said that he shipped the Tuna to Japan to go to auction. He is a fishing guide here on our local lake and knows some commercial fishermen. When he caught the fish he called around and had someone who prices these things meet them at the dock. The dood said it was a nice fish and he should ship it so he did. It was $1000.00 to ship the fish. I guess the little boat pulling up to the dock in Portsmouth with a 435lb fish was quite the spectacle with a crowd of about 100 on lookers.

Carpenter didn't want George to work for any other clients, so he hired him full time and had him trained to fly his jets and helicopters.
Fishing with these guys was just on a whole other level.

He ended up getting a little over $5000 and the air fare paid for. He just blew out his knee playing flag football and is done for the season, maybe even hunting season and he is a Moose guide.

right around $13 a pound, not too bad. But again anyone who thinks they are going make a living fishing for Bluefin in New England is delusional.

He lets the boat owner use his gear and he gets to use the boat. Anyway the boat owner caught two smaller ones for himself last week.
