    Going to Utah

I've got to leave Canada for a week to apply for a new visa so I'm driving to Utah on Monday. (I hear you have some snow there.) Does anyone want to meet up for some turns? Has anyone got floorspace or a place I can park my van and sleep in it?
    Any help is hugely appreciated.

Bump, because Redskea is a fine maggette, kick ass skier and allround nice person.

I know the Calgary and Banff mags are always ready to open their doors to Utah folk. Not that any of you would leave your Utah blower for our, so-called, Rockies cold smoke. But if you did...

    PM sent.

After driving for a day I got to Utah and found Flykdog's house and my place to stay for the night. This morning I drove up to the Basin, through some dry snowless hills. I was getting worried when I went round the corner and saw the mountain covered with snow. Patrol hooked me up with a pass for the day and the chance to check out their avi dog program.
The skiing was sweet, deep winter snow in North facing chutes up the top and nice spring corn lower down. The snow started getting stickier in the afternoon but it was still fun surfing the wet snow in the trees.
I managed to get hold of Altagirl and eventually navigated my way there.
    Alta tomorrow .

Thursday I woke up a little sunburnt after the sun at Snow Basin, said goodbye to AG and Mr AG who were off to Florida, and headed for Alta. There was a refreeze crust at first which made skiing interesting but this quickly softened up in the warm temps. Patrol hooked me up with a ticket again and a guided tour down the main chute of Baldy. This was such nice skiing that I hiked it twice more despite coughing and wheezing all the way up. Just when the snow started to get really sticky I arrived at the top of Supreme in time for a barbeque and kite flying.
After saying goodbye to patrol in the "polar bar" I headed back down the canyon and managed to find my way to Yetiman's house.

Friday I drove up to Solitude through heavy rain. Unfortunately the rain continued right to the base area. Where was the light, dry Utah powder?
I met up with Yeti for a few runs. His Spatulas looked like a good choice for the very heavy snow. I headed inside to get dry and the snow kept falling while the temperature dropped. The colder snow meant I could slide and the tree skiing in the afternoon was some of the best of the season for me . I've always had a dream/fantasy to ski powder through silver birch (having seen photos of Japan.) Friday I got to ski powder through Aspens, while big, fluffy snowflakes fell. SWEET!
All too soon it was over and the sky cleared for the last run the mountain. After saying goodbye to patrol and the cutest fluff-ball puppy I headed back to Yeti's house.

Unfortunately the cough/fever got worse overnight so I have to pass up another day at Snow Basin . ( A parting gift from my employer and their overcrowded staff transport.) I was kind of glad to not see any new snow as I started the long drive back to Canmore.
(Both border crossings were sweet so it must have been those sketchy looking maggots that I went to Jackson with that got our car searched that time )

I blame it on the non-maggot snowboarder.

Looks like there may be some snow this week, we'll have to get some turns in and you can torture me with tales of waist deep Utah pow.
