Peru Surf Trip November

Hi guys, I was wondering if you have any idea if its a good place to be in Nov \ Dec time. I was planning to go from Lima all the way up to north.
Any ideas on:
- Where to stop (surf spots)
- How to travel (bus, train?) and then to go to other spots close by, scooter or how? :P
- Is it safe in smaller towns?

Just be careful man. Argentina and Chile where everyone skis down there might be safe but the rest of the continent is very sketchy. I lived in Colombia for two months and I've never met anyone who has been to Peru who hasn't been robbed. Most of the continent is just not safe. Don't know about the surfing but just be careful. If someone pulls a gun on you give them whatever they want.
