    PLEASE HELP SKI TOURING

So my dilemma is this. This year I bought a pair of Moment PB&J's 2014s and mounted look pivot 14's on them, but just this year, my dad bought me a beacon, probe, shovel, and airbag. I also got avalanche and AT training. I was planning on buying Salomon guardian 13's, but I don't know what skis to put them on. Oh, and I forgot to mention that I can ski almost anything. Ive been bootpacking the backcountry at the canyons in park city UT and have no problem getting down any of that. I am 16 and am 5' 11" weighing 155. I want a ski that will not be too close to the same width underfoot as my 101 pbjs (so 115-125) and want the ski to have rocker in the tip and tail with camber underfoot, but still don't want it to weigh a ton. I was looking at the shreditor 112 from k2, the moment exit world, k2 petitor, and armada Jj. Is there any light you can shed on this topic for me?

You must travel to the dark side first so that you may know the light when it shines on you.

Ill shed some light for you. Take a serious look at the Rax rocker. They sound perfect for you. Super light, great for touring, charge hard as anything, and float in the powpow like a U-boat.

Rax are really popular with a lot of members on this board and I'm sure someone will chime in who has more experience with them. I don't currently own a pair but am definitely trying to pick up a pair for touring next winter...

Forget new skis, ask daddy for a beretta - your backcountry kit is dangerously incomplete without one.

Give a serious look at the K2 hardside. I know its close in dimensions to what you currently have, but the taper and early rise in the tip allow it to float up and shine in fresh powder. A ski such as this will shine in fresh snow while remaining more versatile than your current pb&j's in funky, off-piste snow due to the metal. You should also consider putting a Marker Tour on the skis instead of guardian 13's because they weigh much less and shred just as hard as my Marker Squire's do on my inbounds setup. This setup has allowed me to be so proficient at touring that I regularly carry cinderblocks in my pack to keep up my strength for long approaches and climbs. And remember that a helmet in the backcountry reduces your avalanche awareness.

This is my strong recommendation, based on years of experience. Throw some skins on it and you'll be set. Any binding will do, but you wouldn't want to "waste" your nice new Pivots on them, in my opinion.

Alternatively, have you considered telemark? There is universal agreement on this forum that telemark gear is the most effective way to access the backcountry. And chicks dig it.

Come on dude, the band is just matching her prodigious talent!

Take a serious look at the Carbon Pow from Kitten Factory in SLC, on sale now.

I Rock/ I Rock FT from Fatypus might be your huckleberry, also on sale.

Tech Talk is the place for this

    Well said!

Lambert, I encourage you to PM the user known as Rise To The Top. He can get you set up with the right gear, and can get you a hookup for cheap IV saline, a must for every backcountry pack. He is a backcountry legend on TGR and Epic.
