If you get a chance, do the Camp Pendelton mud run. They have giant communal showers to wash off after it is over. You can hang out in the shower and watch hot women wash mud off their scantily clad bodies. Worth the pain and suffering of the run just for that. The food and beer afterward it not bad either.

I read something about the level of animal fecal matter in those mud pits being ...excessive

of course some of our kinkier brethren may find this to be an extra turn on?

    9. Tuolumne Meadows Campground, Yosemite National Park, California, Yelp

“We were told that they had wifi. What we weren’t told is that they have it configured so badly that it is impossible for anyone to access it. The ineptitude of this campground’s IT skills made my life incredibly difficult while staying there. There is no TV, you cannot get any radio stations, and you should just plain forget about trying to use a cell phone, because it’s just not going to happen. Unless you stand in the middle of the highway—which, if you’re unfortunate enough to stay here, you might want to do anyway…out of sheer depression.”
While the camping spots themselves are nothing special, the location is phenomenal. It is one of the best places to camp ever.

This is my method. 10 person tent for me, wife, 3 yr old and dogs. 5 man tent for the two teenagers. Two coolers, an e-z-up, campstove all transported in a Landy. It's the only way to "get back to nature."

^Don't try that anywhere near Aspen, lest you be accused of an environmental catastrophe! Cute kid though...

This made me chuckle from the link above:

The place (Camp 4) basically was nothing but a noisy zoo filled with screaming, trash-throwing monkeys.

    Not Camping:
Why do I give this place one star? Stupid, drunk, 30-year-old Jersey-Shore-wannabe douchebags blaring ’90s rap and ’70s classic rock from their boom box 24/7 while rambling about how Robert Plant is still the most amazing musician alive. You know the type, right? Ugh.”

    Not Camping:
“On our final night a camper managed to steal a Golf Kart from one of the security guards and as he recklessly drove through the camp he hit our tent and almost ran over our daughter. When security finally caught him they were unable to control him and his friends and the situation got really bad.

“The sheriff came and the thief was arrested which really angered his friends and they continuously came back to our campsite threatening us. Security stayed by us, but had no real control of the situation and wanted to eject the campers.

“Unfortunately the owner overruled security and allowed them to stay. The thief’s friends continued to threaten us and screamed at my young daughter that they wish she had been run over. They were very drunk.”

She probably cleans up pretty well. However the ear gauge ruins it for me. No thanks.

Yes, about 2 miles up the river from Vantage. I actually drove in and the next day a buddy came up the river w/ his boat. It was a good trip but when we do it again we'll head up the river a little further. This is a GREAT spot but is controlled by WA fish n game, they have rules that you can't have a fire between April and September (imagine camping w/out a fire?!?!). We got hassled and ticketed on the last day there

That's a bummer... but so many morans who have no clue about fire and I'm sure you've seen the results. Seems a wildfire was always off in the distance.

We used to go out for a week or two every summer to windsurf, but further down river. I love that area, lots to do, sailing, rafting, mt biking, etc. and gorgeous terrain. Beautiful dry air, too.... I need to get back!

Good reminder to keep a sleeping bag in the car. My wife always complains that it takes up too much space. There's a long list of shit that one should have. But a sleeping bag goes a long fucking way. And it could come in handy for that too.

You just need the right group of guys and proper matching equipment to get back in touch with nature

Whoa. Technology may be on the verge of solving at least one of my camping issues: sleeping on tree roots...

The mantra of backpacking is : "If you don't need it, don't bring it."

The mantra of car camping is : "If you don't have it, it's 'cause you didn't bring it."

Also, I find intentional camping to be more enjoyable than the unplanned variety.
